Subject: How to get really dark shadows?

Thanks guys for helping me on my two previous questions. I am looking 
through the manuals (R2.5) and it doesn't seem to say how I can make 
shadows darker. I have a scene in which I need the shadows to be really 
noticeable and I don't care whether it is artistically correct or 
physically correct. How can I do it? Thanks for the advice.
