I understand why you chose the karate kick animation for him -- for those of you who aren't familiar with halflife or character studio, or using the two together... Generally you want to make a model, and then you want to attach the skeleton to him. Once you do that, you need to make sure that all the limbs are functioning properly (so to speak) and make sure that you don't have arm vertices attached to the leg and such. The process I usually go through to do this is running my character though all of the default .bip files that come with CS2 -- especially the karate kick ones, because just about every part of the body moves and you'll get a real good idea very quickly as to where the problems in your model lie. Different animations use different body parts, and so I usually run it through one, tweak it, looks good there, run it through a different animation, tweak it, looks good there, etc... I usually end up running through 10 or 15 of the animations and by that time, if everything looks good, you've got a pretty solid model that'll hold up and everything is attached where it needs to be. I'm --guessing-- that why he chose the karate kick as the animation. And while the animation doesn't show off something "piratey" it does show off that the model is well constructed and is setup right in character studio. Keep up that good work, and I doubt you'll have a problem getting a job in the game industry. The best way to do that seems to be to do what you're doing -- work on a mod, or at the very least, work on models and get them out in the community (to places like polycount.com and the various other user model sites for quake/unreal/halflife) -Greg http://members.xoom.com/ascent27/ -----Original Message----- From: Axeman [mailto:axeman@bah.net] Sent: Tuesday, March 14, 2000 6:35 PM To: 3DSMAX@engram.net Subject: Re[2]: portfolio critique Hehe, here it is.
