I'm just working on a new splash screen to replace it. As for the other part, about the site not being professional... My target audience is not going to be CEO's of major web design firms. In fact, I'm trying to avoid them all together. I made the decision from the start to make it more of an artistic representation of my skills, rather than a practical one. I'm trying to sell my texturing, modeling and animating skills. The last thing I want to be doing is designing ecommerce sites. But this is the kind of stuff I want to hear; maybe I should rethink some aspects.
