In case you hadn't noticed, Detroit carmakers use CAD of all types, rather than a general-purpose rendering & animation package like MAX. You simply can't get the same level of control with MAX as you can with, say, AutoCAD, as they're made for different (but complementary) purposes. A plugin like Rhino will help a lot for an "organic" look, but for accurate swept surfaces, I think AutoCAD would be your best bet at this point, Bob. Aloha!
