From: Bob Gruen To: 3D Studio MAX Mailing List <3DSMAX@engram.net> Subject: Advice modeling a car in Max 2.5 Date: Monday, April 03, 2000 10:05 AM I would like to create a mesh model of a car (Pontiac TransAm) in Max 2.5. I was wondering if anyone could offer suggestions as to the best method to accomplish this or any tip that I could use along the way. I started by getting many images to look at and use as backgrounds in my viewports and by getting measurements to use. Then I traced a spline around the outline of the car from the side to form a profile which I extruded. I then applied a FFD Box 4x4x4 to the mesh and used that to shape the car a bit. I am kind of at a loss for what to do here... I have flat sides since I extruded a flat spline. I applied a MeshSmooth and it really made it look bad... Have I gone the wrong design route altogether? Should I go with what I have and extrude the sides, scale them down and repeat to get a smoother curved side surface? Any advice, comments or thoughts would be highly appreciated. Thanks!
