I'm also not sure exactly where you're having trouble, but I can tell you
that the Maxscript help file is very useful in respect of controllers etc.

Scriptcontrollers are basically expressioncontrollers on steriods.  Once
assigned to a parameter of an object (like visibility), you can access the
text of the script with the <object>.<parameter>.<scriptcontroller>.script
property.  You can write maxscript code to iterate through the objects you
want visibility-scripted and assign object-specific code to them.
