You made a good point about the chrome ball metaphor, I have used 3D Studio since R3. Not only did I take part in its chrome ball phase (I would say it was more of the particle phase) I got mired down in it. It probably wasn't until Max 1 did I really "use" the program and realize I can get great results without all the rehashed eye candy. Going through that time wasted experience I have just grown to frown on that work. As you quoted me I hadn't seen any work that has made appreciate it as strong tool. However today thanks to the kind people of the list I now have seen work that is great and down right funny. Give me a break. You guys are acting like the FLASH program is somehow responsible for the web-sites being made with it. Don't blame the tool for the work. It's not FLASH you dislike, it's the work being done with it. Most of the Flash work and web-pages are the same these days because it's a relatively new product. People see a Flash animation that they like and they try to emulate it. Hence 2,000 sites with similar design. But it was the same way with 3D software. Cripes, a few years back, how many times did someone call you over to a computer and say, "YOU GOTTA SEE THIS!" and then point to a screen filled with shiny chrome balls hovering over a reflective checkered floor. We're still at the chrome ball stage of Flash. Give it time. I've seen some amazing interfaces created with Flash. Simple. Fast. Visually stunning. Check out http://www.blastradius.com I've been back to that site dozens of times, just cuz it's interesting to look at. I can't say that for many sites. Flash made that site possible. It didn't make that site. Someone using Flash did. Skewer him, not the tool.
