If you have a digital video camera:

buy a Pyro firewire card for $70.

The quality is perfect and comparable to professional output because it is digital.  I've done this many times and I've always been pleased...

Subject: export to video cassette + dual proc doubts

hi all..

am a longtime listener on this list...posted queries earlier from my old email id...with 100% successful replies

got two doubts..

1. which is the best way to get good quality output of an animation onto video tape...? .tried using the dual head Matrox g400 Max to output to vcr a 640 X480 avi (cinepak codec).....but got a really grainy video...

incidentally i remember reading here about  a targa board..what is it?... is that what i shud be using and does it work?...

2. i have a large max file:- 5049 objects..9197480 faces...shadows disabled......i rendered this on a dual pIII 550 with 256 mb ram ...1gb page file.....when i ran windows nt task manager and checked the perf graphs..to my surprise the processors are mostly at 30% usage with occasional bursts upto 60% max.and its painfully slow to render....(ram usage around 70-80%)........doesnt  this mean an underutilisation of processing power..and isnt it what i wud get on a single processor machine?

when i tried the sample max file in 3dsmax3/scenes/featurebased/raytrace/goblet.......the processors were at 100% ..!!!!!..does this mean there is something wrong with my file??!!..am at a total loss..

would greatly appreciate anyone shedding light on the matter

thanks a lot

Abey
