What's the use of having so much texture memory? When working on large scenes I usually just turn the object color on because the viewports never accurately depict what the textures are going to look like rendered. Of course there are times you need textures enabled to test gizmo placement, unwrap results, etc, but not enough to warrant 256 megs of system memory solely for textures.
