You have to make sure that the maps are in the correct spot.  If you are going to import the 3ds file into 2.5 when you apply the maps to the sphere, make sure that the maps are in the same directory as you are going to export the 3ds file to.  That way when you import it, 2.5 won't be looking for the map files in the wrong places...  And make sure you use "Save Texture Cords." option when exporting.

Hope this helps.

Subject: How to get Max 2.5 to import maps with 3DS file

Hi all:  I create a sphere (the earth for example) with UVW mapping and a JPG bitmap in Max 3.1.  I then export it in 3DS format.  If I import the 3DS sphere into Max 2.5, the sphere is imported but without the earth bitmap.  Is it possible for Max 2.5 to conserve the bitmap during import of 3DS files?  I know it is there because if I import the same file into Deep Paint 3D, I can import the JPG file with no problem.

Thanks, Alfredo Huerta
