Basic Sweetdough Recipe
1 C milk
2/3 C sugar
1/4 C butter or margerine
2 C cold water
50 grams  ( 2 ounces ) caked yeast
pinch of salt
All Purpose Flour
( about 6 C )

NOTE; Add
2 eggs to liquid ingredients if recipe calls for sweetdough recipe with eggs.
In a sauce pan, mix milk, sugar and butter while heating. Bring only to a scald. Pour into mixing bowl.

Add 1 C cold water and stir. Add yeast when mixture is luke warm. Mix well. Let sit for 10 minutes.

Add salt and start sifting in flour. Mix with whisk while adding flour until dough is sticky and stirring with a whisk is no longer easy.

Continue sifting in flour, this time mixing with your hands. Add only enough flour to make a nice elastic dough but not sticky.

Remove from bowl onto floured surface and kneed for about 5 minutes. The dough  should be soft to the touch or as they say, "as soft as a baby's bottom" :)

Place upside down in greased bowl and turn over to coat with oil. Cover with damp towl. Let rise until doubled in size ( about an hour ).

Remove dough from bowl and kneed on floured surface for about 1 minute. Form into desired shapes or whatever your recipe calls for.
