SQUIRREL

There are two kinds of squirrels, Tree squirrels and Ground squirrels. The word SQUIRREL comes from two Greek words that mean SHADOW TAIL. There are over 300 kinds of squirrels.

This is a tree squirrel. Some types of tree squirrels are grey squirrels, fox squirrels, red squirrels, and flying squirrels. Flying squirrels don't really fly, they glide through the air with the fold of skin that goes from it's front legs to it's back legs, like wings.

This is a chipmunk, a kind of ground squirrel. Squirrels are usually seen as tree squirrels but there are more ground squirrels than you think. Marmots, Prairie dogs, and Woodchucks are also ground squirrels, and ground squirrels, you can guess, MOST don't climb trees. BUT chipmunks do, if they are scared.
