Otters are members of the weasel family. They live close to the water and spend lots of time in it. They are awkward when they are not in the water. They live on all continents except Australia and Antarctica. Most otters are between 3 and 4.5 feet long when full grown, But the giant otter of South America can be as much as 7 feet long when full grown. Otters live in both salt AND fresh water. Otters eat crayfish, crabs, fish, and clams. Sometimes they might eat snails, frogs, or snakes. They would eat clams by swimming down to the bottom of the lake, stream, river, or sea and get the clam, then they would go back down and get a rock, they'd come back up and use it to break open the clam. They live in burrows or under rocky ledges. People hunt them for their beautiful fur (that's such a sin).
