In Loving Memory of  LAURIE MICHELLE BAER

on the 1st  Mother's Day after her death
                      10/31/76-12/4/92

I looked at your picture today and saw the same beautiful eyes
that looked at me with love when you were a baby.
I looked at your picture today and saw the same beautiful mouth
that made me cry when you first smiled at me.
It was not long ago that I held you in my arms
long after you fell asleep and
I just kept rocking you all night long.
I looked at your picture today and saw my beautiful daughter..
.no longer a baby, but a beautiful young lady with emotions,
feelings, dreams, hopes, desires and goals.
Every day was exciting as I continued to watch you grow,
but everything stopped on the 4th of December
when our world came to an end, and now there is nothing but darkness.
I pray that you always knew that in good times and in bad times,
I always loved you,
no matter what you did or what you thought or what you said,
that everything I did I did for you,
that you could always depend on my friendship and my love
every minute of every day.
I LOVED BEING YOUR MOTHER!!!

In Loving Memory of  LAURIE MICHELLE BAER
on the First Anniversary of her Death

10/31/76 - 12/4/92

One year ago today at 5:17 P.M. our reason for living died in a lonely operating room in Boston.
God hardened our hearts when Laurie died, so much they almost stopped beating.
Words can't express how we feel, but this poem (I have changed a few words)
reflects some of our thoughts.  The only problem is that dreams end
and for a few moments we forget that she has died.  Then reality strikes--
she is not in her bedroom all warm and cozy stretched crosswise across her bed,
we won't ever hear her again say "Mommy" or "Daddy" or "I love you",
or feel her hug and kiss, or see her wrinkle up her nose like a bunny--
and the pain starts all over again

Healing Dreams by Colleen Burgess

You touched my life the way no other heart could.
You brought a smile to my face and brightened my day.
My heart beats painfully over your absence, and
Thoughts of you fill me with a bittersweet ache.
Not a minute goes by that you are not on my mind.
I wonder what life would have been like if you were still here.
Even though I pray you're in a far better place,
I ache for you and wish you could have survived somehow.
I look to God for the answers to all my questions.
I ask Him why He made you imperfect and why He took you from us.
When I think my heart is going to break into a million pieces,
I see you in my dreams at night.
When I sometimes dream of you at night,
I wonder if it is really you, reassuring me of your happiness,
Or just my mind, fulfilling my desperate wishes.
When I do have those precious dreams, and I see your smiling face and sparkling eyes,
I know you have achieved a happiness and perfection
That no one alive could ever dream of achieving.
When I have those dreams, I stop grieving for a little while
And feel a reassuring peace inside my heart.
I pray one day I will see you and be with you once again,
And it is easier to find the strength to get through the grief.
We'll love you forever

The Children Up In Heaven

"Oh What do you think the angels say"
Said the children up in Heaven
There's a dear little girl coming home today,
She's almost ready to fly away
From the earth where we used to live.
Let's go and open the gates of pearl,
Open them wide for the new little girl,"
Said the children up in Heaven.
"God wanted her here where His little ones meet,"
Said the children up in Heaven;
"She will play with us in the golden street:
She has grown too fair, she has grown too sweet,
From the earth where we used to live.
She needed the sunshine, this dear little girl
That gilds this side of the gates of pearl,"
Said the children up in Heaven.
"Fly with her quickly, O angels dear,"
Said the children up in Heaven.
"See--she's coming.  Look there
At the jasper light in long dark brown hair."
Ah, hush, hush!  All the swift wings furl!
For the King Himself, at the gates of pearl,
Is taking her hand, my sweet little girl,
And is leading her into Heaven. "

In Loving Memory of LAURIE MICHELLE BAER
on her 17th birthday

10/31/76-12/04/92

Dear Laurie,   We put fresh flowers on your grave today,
your 17th birthday.  It seems like so little to do for someone
who was your whole life for 16 years.
I remember how much you looked forward to being a junior and senior
in high school--the football games, dances, and the Junior-Senior Prom.
I'm glad we bought your senior ring before you died.
At least you got to wear it for a little while.
Sometimes I think back to some of your other happier birthdays--
your first when you sat in the high chair
and threw wrapping paper all over the patio,
the second with the stand-up teddy bear cake,
others with the Holly Hobby cake, the pumpkin cake,
the birthday party when Carrie crawled in Boomer's dog house,
and others.  It seems like only yesterday when you opened the
card from The Monkees and found an autographed picture
of them to you.
You could see the surprise and excitement
all over your face.
Your birthday was always a very special day for us.
You were our only child and you brought us more love,
happiness and joy than anyone could imagine.
I just don't know how we can make it through this day without you.
It would help to know that others think about you
and miss you, that you didn't live 16 years for just us.
No one except a grieving parent can imagine the emptiness
and loneliness we feel inside,
the gaping hole that is left in our hearts,
and the constant pain and torment we feel.
So, Laurie, if you look down and happen to see
a little smile on our face, it isn't because we have forgotten
about you or because we don't love you any more.
It may be because we thought about something cute
or funny you said or did,
or perhaps some new friend
has told us something cute about their child
that reminded us of you,
or it may be because we are thinking about the day
that we will see you again.
We will never forget you and we will never stop loving you.
We are lost without you.

How I miss sitting up with you on Saturday nights and watching Headbanger's Ball
and American Gladiators, or checking back and forth on the MTV channel
trying to catch a video you wanted to tape.  I can still hear you laughing in the other room when you used to talk on the phone for hours.
It always made me feel so good because I knew you were happy then.
We always spent all of our time when not at work with you,
treasuring each moment together.  We did whatever we could to make you happy,
even if it was just for a little while, because we knew the one thing
we could not give you that would make everyone happy was a normal heart.
I remember when some of the kids used to get jealous when
you were excused from P.E.  If they only knew,
you would have changed places with them in a minute if you could.
I wonder if they think about you now, or if anyone does.
I did see a couple of kids at the cemetery a while ago.
I was so used to seeing you with them that my heart stopped
when I first saw them.  I think the hardest thing I have done
since your funeral was to watch them get in the car and drive away,
and all I could do was look down at your grave still questioning "why?"
We're lost without you.
I love you every minute of every day, my beautiful daughter -
We'll love you forever.

In Loving Memory of LAURIE MICHELLE BAER
         on her 21st Birthday

10-31-76 through 12-4-92

Every time I go into Laurie's bedroom and look at her Barbie dolls,
her My Little Ponies, her Rainbow Brite dolls, and so many other things,
I remember the poem "Little Boy Blue" that I read long ago while in grade school. ..
." and as he was dreaming an angel song awakened our Little Boy Blue.
The years are many, the years are long, but the little toy friends are true.
Ah, faithful to Little Boy Blue they stand, each in the same old place.
Awaiting the touch of his little hand, the smile on his little face.
And they wonder awaiting those long years through,
in the dust of that little chair.
Oh, what has become of our Little Boy Blue,
since he kissed them and put them there?"
Oh, what has become of our Little Laurie Baer,
since she kissed them and put them there?
I read in one of Billy Graham's books that after you take your last breath on earth,
you take your first breath in Heaven.  I know that if anyone is in Heaven, it is Laurie.
I never heard her say a bad word about anyone, not even when they deserved it.
She was very thoughtful of others and gave her clothes and toys to others
whom she felt needed them more than she did.
She was a very loving child, and never got embarrassed if I put my arm around her
while we walked in the mall, or if I gave her a kiss when I dropped her off for school.
Many, many nights I lay awake in bed longing to hear her say
"Mommy or Daddy" just one more time,
comb her beautiful long dark brown hair,
or just wrap my arm around her and tell her that I love her.
We'll love you forever.

In Loving Memory on Mother's Day
   of LAURIE MICHELLE BAER  (10/31/76-12/4/92)
       and MENA SPEAKER (3/31/13-3/14/97)

There once was an angel who slipped out of heaven and
spent the day roaming around the earth.
As the sun was setting, he decided he wanted to take along
some mementos of his visit.
He noticed some lovely roses in a flower garden,
plucked the rarest and most beautiful,
and made a bouquet to take back to heaven.
Looking on a bit farther, he saw a beautiful little baby
smiling into its mother's face.
The baby's smile was even prettier than the bouquet of roses,
so he took that too.
He was about to leave when he saw the mother's love
pouring out like a gushing river
toward the little baby in the cradle,
and said to himself,
Oh, that mother's love is the prettiest thing
I have seen on earth;
I will carry that too.
He winged his way back to heaven,
but just outside the pearly gates
he decided to examine his mementos
to see how well they had made the trip.
The flowers had withered, the baby's smile had faded,
but the mother's love was still there in all its warmth and beauty.
He discarded the withered flowers and the faded smile,
gathered all the hosts of heaven around him and said,
Here's the only thing I found on earth
that would keep its beauty all the way to heaven...
   It Is A Mother's Love

We'll love you forever.

Laurie, our angel in heaven.  Do you feel our love always?
Do you know when we dream of you? Do you hear Gwen singing to you?  Have you seen Nisha's baby?  Do you talk to her when she smiles?
Do you see Bertha's tears.  Keep your candle glowing brightly.
A star shines for you.
We'll love you forever.
