Our Riding Club Always Welcomes New Members! Looking for a horseback riding club to join? We are a group of horse owners who enjoy horseback riding and camping with our equine partners in southwest Florida. Our club holds monthly meetings as well as trail rides in many of Florida's state parks. Members and non-members alike are welcome to participate in our rides and other activities. The club meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the Quattlebaum House on Dam Road, just off S.R. 64 southeast of Ellenton, Florida. (Directions) Our meetings are fun and educational for the new horse owner and the experienced rider alike. Monthly speakers discuss topics like horse behavior, training, equine health, nutrition and care. To join, simply complete and mail our membership application with your $20 membership fee. For more information email [email protected]. From the Saddle of the New President, Andrea Mosier: It is my honor to agree to serve as president of the Myakka River Riders Club. For many years I had been aware of the MRR and for just as many years I declined to join. I kept saying “I don’t want to go to any more meetings”. But then in 2008, John and I joined just so we could go to Doe Lake. Then John said that since we were members we had to go to the meetings so I begrudgingly agreed to go to our first meeting. There we met new friends, we ate and we laughed so hard talking about horses – my favorite subject. It sure wasn’t like any other meetings I go to! So, we went to the next meeting, and again to the next and every month after that. And I have to say that each and every meeting has been both informative and fun, and never boring. Much of that is testimony to Roberta’s hard work and innovative style. She’s been a great president and it will be hard to step into her boots. But I am up for the challenge. Plus I know that the club isn’t made-up of just the president, but it’s all of you who make it fun and productive. So, it shouldn’t be too hard for your Vice-President Amy and I to pick-up where Roberta and Marcia left off and keep us moving forward in a positive productive fashion. Since we don’t have a scheduled speaker in August, I thought we could plan to spend some time brainstorming ideas for our future meetings. I already have a few ideas I look forward to sharing and hearing all of your suggestions too. Together we can make this a great year both on and off the trails!
