Nairobi , has been Kenya's capital city before and after Kenya's indipendence in 1963.The city was founded
in 1899 and given a name with a Masaai origin. The capital's current population is nearly 4 million.
Tourist activity is common and is important to Nairobi since its the central place where safaris to the masai Mara and all the other national reserves and destinations are planned.Moi avenue therefore has most of the tour agencies and companies.tours to other east Africa destinations can also be arranged from the capital.
Most of the public transportation can be found on the busy Latema road where most "Matatus" or public buses leave for the outscarts and the villages near Nairobi.
The most important street,i guess , would be kenyatta avenue which is the main business street in the city center. Most government and international offices can be found around this street.
Nairobi is also a cultural capital. Its National museum bears ,notably ,the great works of joy Adamson, the English conservationist(1910-1980).Check out her portrait of a swahili musician also available at the Lamu museum
