There are two cats who live with me, KIPLING and TIKKI.

KIPLING was feral, he had been living wild for at least 6 months before the animal rescue received him.  Originally called Baggy (Bageera from the Jungle Book), I thought he deserved a more dignified name.  After some discussion and many hours watching his personality develop it became apparent that Baggy was an independat cat, who was happiest when doing what he wanted to do.  To call him
The Cat Who Walked By Himself was a mouthful, so when a friend suggested Kipling it was wholly appropriate (thanks Tildi).  For the less cultured reader, Kipling also makes an exceedingly good laptop.

TIKKI came to stay when her owners moved overseas. It seemed fate that Tikki was named after Rikki Tikki Tavi from the Jungle Book (by Rudyard Kipling), it all fell into place!  Tikki is still settling in and often behaves like a crochety old woman. The pair of them used to keep me awake with their arguing and fighting, but recently they've become more tolerant of each other and Tikki more tolerant of me. She often comes up onto my knee for a pet now and even climbs up onto the bed to read with me at night.

KIPLING and TIKKI have many friends locally.
Sooty & Sweep, Missy & Miller and Levi.
