Kay

I have known Kay for many years but have come to count her as a friend more recently. She has lived in the village almost as long as I have, but I knew her more as an acquaintance; her children are younger than mine, but we still did the same routines - her eldest daughter and my youngest went to the same school, the same dance class and the same Brownie Pack. After my daughter had left Brownies and I, together with my friend Carol, started the village Guide Unit, Kay's eldest daughter was the very first Brownie to "move up" to Guides the Christmas after we opened, and it wasn't long before Kay also transferred from Brownies to Guides.

Since becoming a Guide leader Kay has accompanied us on several camps (willingly, I think) and been dragged kicking and screaming on an all-action activity and water sports holiday. I honestly thought she was enjoying herself until she told me "NEVER again....." and even now she begins to gibber at the mere mention of canoes or windsurfers (you really had to be there....!)

Kay, you deserve a medal for putting up with what we inflict on you (and you may derive some satisfaction when I tell you we were all horribly seasick on our latest jaunt!!) Browse through this, YOUR page, and thanks for sticking it out and putting up with me!

Kay can be a male or female name and, when not a short form or pet name, is derived from the Latin "Gaius" which means "happy." It is also often used as a short form of names beginning with the letter K, and in Kay's case this also applies - her given names are Karen Kay although she is always known as Kay.

Kay's birthday is in early July, which means her birth sign is Cancer

Cancer is a water sign, Kay.....!! Apart from that, the typical Cancerian is kind and sensitive, and female cancerians are said to be strongly maternal. They are also imaginative, patriotic and as they are ruled by the moon, should be incurable romantics.

The traditional birthstone for July is the Ruby, which is said to endow the wearer with good health and to protect the wearer's home. Your favoured colours are aquamarine, grey and cream (now, what colour is that velour suit.....?) and you have an affinity with the precious metal silver.

You share your birthday with the composer Gustav Mahler and Ringo Starr, and on that date the actresses Veronica Lake, Vivien Leigh and Flora Robson all died (but in different years.) Your birthday has also been the date of several Wimbledon finals - in 1972 Billie Jean King beat Evonne Goolagong, in 1978 Martina Navratilova beat Chris Evert, in 1985 Boris Becker beat Kevin Curren, in 1990 Martina Navratilova beat Zena Garrison and in 1991 Michael Stich beat Boris Becker.

Now you KNOW you wish you'd come with us....
