The ancient Roman town of Xanten
in the Lower Rhine areais situated in the county of Wesel,
in the northern part of North Rhine Westphalia.

Xanten has become a treasure trove for archeologists
because it is the only Roman town north of the Alps
which has not been built over since the collapse of the Roman Empire.
Its ground plan has remained intact under the fields and pastures.
Nowadays it is not only a place where archeologists are employed.
In addition, the results of their excavations have been reconstructed
on a scale of 1:1 over the original foundations
and since 1977 the Rhineland Landscape Association
has made them accessible to the public in the Xanten Archeological
Park

There are approximately 19,500 inhabitants living here on the left bank of the Rhine.

This 6 km long lake is connected to the South Lake by a canal,

Das Nibelungenbad
This attractive swimming and water sports facility was opened in 1982
and has been continuously extended since then.
It centres round the Nibelungen Baths in Xanten-Wardt.
This family-oriented swimming and leisure area,
with its wave pool heated to 24ºC, its unique beach landscape,
sauna and solaria, games and sports areas,
restaurants bars and cafés, invites young
and old to spend an enjoyable day on the water.
