The Proposals
So, every person who has been a Chandler and Monica fan for a while should know about the famous proposals, for different reasons Chandler has proposed to Monica three times and well... the third one ended in the real thing. So, lets hear a little bit about those proposals, ok?
Anything you think I may add or change? Email me and let me know.
First Proposal (The story begins...)
Season: Five
Episode: The One With The Girl Who Hits Joey
Story: So, after everyone finds out about Chandler and Monica, they all start planning their future, talking about kids, marriage, etc... And knowing Chandler, the afraid of commitment guy, he freaks out. Of course, I mean everyone was talking about their future, how many kids they were going to have and they were going out for about 6 months only... Everything people said helped him to freak out even more and to believe that Monica wanted all those things RIGHT away. Of course, after a while of this weird behavior, Monica discovers what he has been thinking about and gets mad at him, she says: "If you are not ready to be in a serious relationship, then don't be in one". Chandler doesn't know what to do... Monica won't help him telling him what to do so she will think he is 'all cute again' and he goes for what he thinks is the cleverest way out... he proposes. He enters Monica and Rachel's apartment running and just pops up the question.
Reasons: Reasons of why he proposed... according to him because he was sorry (what a great reason to get married that is, isn't it?)
Failure: Why did it fail? Why didn't it end with the 'I Do's'? Well, Monica realized what a stupid reason to propose it was... and she knew she wasn't ready yet, and of course he wasn't either. She let him know she wanted to get married someday, but not just yet. Aren't they the cutest?
Second proposal (And the story repeats...)
Season: Five
Episode: The One In Vegas
Story: Lets go to Vegas, lets go to celebrate our anniversary! What will I find out?... So, Chandler and Monica decide to go to Vegas to celebrate their anniversary (Phoebe and the rest tag along). During the flight and thanks to Phoebe, Chandler finds out that Monica went out and had lunch with Richard (yeah, the mustache guy) He says he is ok with this, but after they arrive, the topic comes back again and Monica sees Chandler wasn't really ok with it (wasn't it obvious from the beginning?) So, she says she is sorry, blah blah blah and that the next time she will tell him, Chandler says there won't be a next time and... now Monica is mad at him. They go on different ways to start celebrating their anniversary by themselves... (sounds like fun, huh?) Monica and Chandler are both sad, Phoebe convinces Monica to go and talk to Chandler, on the way to his room she finds a piece of the casino and decides to start playing... Meanwhile Chandler is upstairs talking with Joey, then Phoebe comes in and asks if Chandler talked to Monica, he says no and Phoebe tells him to look after her because she said she was coming upstairs to talk to him. He goes downstairs and sees Monica having fun at this table, so he turns around and leaves. After a while he comes back with a bag and tells Monica he is going home, they talk for a while and Monica tells him Richard means nothing to her anymore and they are happy again (yey!). They start playing at the table again and Monica is getting really lucky. They start offering dinner to everyone watching if Monica wins, then they go to the best room in the hotel and then the special offer: "If you roll another hard eight we get married here tonight!" Monica is, at first, really shocked but accepts the offer, she throws the dices and one is a four, the other one goes out of the table and under it, Monica and Chandler both go on different sides and meet down the table where the dice is, its just in the foot of the table and its between a four and a five... Monica tells Chandler he has to decide and his answer is: "It's a four" and she smiles and says "I think so too..." They kiss as 'Everybody loves somebody' comes on the background.
Reasons: Don't mean to be corny but... the reason is simply pure love. And then, said on episode 601, The One After Vegas, it was a sign.
Failure: When they were about to enter the chapel and do it, Ross and Rachel (boo!!... j/k) came out... they both stay there very very shocked and then on the continuation of this episode, they both back out because they think its too rushed... But hey, this lead into them moving in together, see, everything has its positive side.
Third Proposal (And here it ends...)
Season: Six
Episode: The One With The Proposal
Story: It all started a little before this episode, Monica goes to the Morgan Chase museum and decides to book a date for the wedding (according to a girl who works there you have to book with two years of anticipation, so Monica sees no harm on doing it) Then someone canceled and Hildey (this woman who works at the museum) calls to Monica and Chandler's apartment and says there's an space available for their wedding. Chandler hears all this and freaks out, then after thinking about it, decides to propose to Monica days later, Monica not having a clue. Chandler decides to make his proposal at a restaurant. While they are there, Richard comes in and Monica sees him, she yells his name and Richard and his date end up sitting with them, therefore Chandler can't propose. When they get home they (Phoebe, Joey, Rachel and Ross) all think they are already engaged and ask to see Monica's hand, of course she doesn't know what the hell is going on and Chandler thinks she suspects something, so he starts telling her and letting her think that he is totally against marriage and that he doesn't want to marry ever (of course, this is all fake). Monica is really confused by this sudden change and feeling against marriage... Later, Richard decides to show up at her restaurant telling her he still loves her and that he wants to marry her... Between all the confusion, later that day and after talking to Chandler (he still insisting marriage is useless), she goes to Richard's apartment and talks to him, saying all this is unfair and she doesn't know what to do, after a while there she leaves, needing time to think. Chandler finds out, thanks to Joey, that Richard told Monica he loves her, so he goes after Monica but doesn't find her, his last resource is Richard's apartment, he goes there trying to find Monica but she isn't there. He talks to Richard, he tells him how much he loves Monica and Richard tells him to go for it and after her. Chandler leaves the apartment running (forgetting the ring that he was carrying with him, but then coming back to get it). He gets to the hallway between his apartment and Joey's and Joey tells him Monica is gone, Chandler is all depressed thinking he lost her forever and enters his apartment to find it light up by millions of candles and Monica in the center of it ("You wanted it to be a surprise"). He walks over to her ("Oh my God...") and she kneels down in front of him, she tries to propose, but she is sobbing like crazy, so she can't do it ("There's a reason why girls don't do this!!") Chandler then kneels in front of her and takes out the ring from his pocket and proposes ("Monica, I thought it mattered what I said or where I said it, then I realized the only thing that matters is that you... you made me happier than I ever thought I could be, and if you let me, I'll spend the rest of my life trying to make you feel the same way... Monica, will you marry me?") She, of course, says yes and they hug. Finally one that worked out.
Reasons: Come on... what other reason is there left than just love? No sorries this time, no signs, just love. Just look at them together and you'll see what I mean, those two are perfect for each other and they are getting married (Well, got married, actually) for a reason: Love. They love each other so much they were willing to spend the rest of their lives together... (yeah, yeah, so I got carried away...)
Failure: Failure? What failure? There was no failure this time, it succeed and they are now happily married. (I'm just waiting for a little Bing in the house)
