Hello everyone! This is the first fanfic of a new series. Since it’s Easter weekend, I can spend more time on fanfic… This one takes place after TOW the proposal… but the proposal didn’t happened quite in the same way. There are flash backs trough all the fanfic that will explain what happened and why Monica and Chandler are acting so weirdly… So, I hope u will enjoy it (I do the best that I can…LOL). Feedback and even criticisms are appreciated if they are constructive…
Happy holidays for the one concerned!
***********
It has been three days since none of Rachel, Phoebe, Ross and Joey have seen Chandler or Monica. They are worried ‘bout them but they are all hoping that it is because they are enjoying their engagement that nobody have seen them. Maybe, they are happily together in a romantic place. However, if Monica have been engaged, she would have been so proud of herself than she wouldn’t have resist to telling all her friends. They are talking ‘bout that in Joey and Rachel’s apartment when Monica comes in.
MON (not looking really happy): I’m engaged!!
The others stare at her, confused but reassured.
RACH: Finally! Congratulations. Chandler succeeds in asking you.
She wants to hug her.
MON: No… In fact, I’m engaged to Richard.
ALL: What?
***Flashback***
(It’s the end of the scene in the TOW the proposal when Monica tells Richard that it’s not fair he proposes to her now.)
MON (in Richard’s arms): Nothing!!
RICH: It’s true, sweetie, it’s not fair, cos’ the boy you’re with now will never give you what you want, and you know that, like I was not ready tree years ago… but now, I am. I know we’ve lost all that time, but we could live in happiness for the rest of our lives. I’m ready now to give you all you’ve ever dreamed of. You’ve always wanted all that and… I’m the only one who loves you enough to offer you that.
MON (a bit confused): I don’t know.
RICH (down on one knee): Monica Geller, will you be my wife? If you say no, I’ll stop bothering you but I’ll still love ya for the rest of my life.
MON (with tears): Why are you so sweet? You’re not making things easier for me!
RICH: Just say yes… Please.
Monica was really annoying by his proposal. She really likes him, but she was in love with Chandler… or, at least, she thought so. However, he was so mean with her. How could he do that to her? It seems like he didn’t really love her, but she could never say yes… she couldn’t.
RICH: Monica, please, what is your answer?
***Back to the present***
PHOE: You’re kidding, right?
RACH (shocked): How could you do that?
MON (a bit mad): I don’t know… I just say yes…
JOEY: But…
They all remain silent as they stare at her, stunned.
ROSS: Have you think ‘bout Chandler?
MON: I… (angry) You should be happy for me!
RACH: Sweetie, we just don’t understand you.
MON: Fine.
She leaves the apartment with tears in her eyes and shuts the door.
In Joey and Rachel’s, they’re looking at each other, not knowing what to say.
PHOE: I really don’t understand her!
JOEY: Yeah, this is nonsense: she and Chandler love each other, right?
RACH: Yeah! When he’ll learn that, he’ll be so sad. It’s just so not like her to do something like that!
JOEY: I can’t believe her! Was she just acting all this time?
ROSS: I don’t think so…
JOEY: If she hurts Chandler, I will… I don’t know what I’ll do but … she will NOT stay my friend!
After Joey says that, they stop talking. They are sad, confused and even a bit afraid: they all realize they will have to choose between Chandler’s side and Monica’s. And Monica seems to be the one in the wrong…
In her apartment, Monica felts on the couch. She doesn’t know what to do. Without Chandler’s presence in there, it feels like something is missing… missing in the apartment, and also, missing in herself.
How could she let that happened? One week ago, they were in love with each other, and, now, she is, in a way, engaged to another man. She begins to cry as she realizes that, maybe, Chandler will never want to talk to her again. As her tears don’t dry, she felts asleep on the couch, too tired to stay up.
***Monica’s dream***
In her dream, which was a nightmare in fact, she heard Chandler’s angry voice shouting at her:
CHAN: In fact, I used to thought I was really lucky to have you but you don’t deserve me either!!
Then, the "dreamed" Chandler mostly disappeared and all she could see was his eyes like she had never seen them before: not friendly or loving but just pure hate and anger.
***Back to reality***
Monica wakes up from her dream, shaking. She isn’t quietly remembering what her dream was but she remembers the feelings : sadness and fear. She tries to reach Chandler’s hand to comfort her, when she notices she isn’t on her bed but on the couch and that Chandler isn’t there. At this moment, memories of the three last days come back in hurry in her head. She realizes that her nightmare was not a dream… but a memory. She stares in the air, not knowing what to do. Her whole world seems to crumble. At least she is engaged, she thinks with irony. She can’t live like that. She remembers how her friends react to her announcement. They surely hate her now. Not only she is losing the love of her life, but also, all her friends who are like a family for her.
Chandler walks in Rachel and Joey’s apartment to find them all discussing. A big silence felts in the room as they see him. He doesn’t look in a good mood. They all stare at each other, hoping someone else would talk. None of his friend wants to tell him such bad news but they couldn’t stay without telling him either. The silence is awkward, and they all can sense the tension. That upsets Chandler. He already has enough to deal with with Monica, he can’t stand now to have to guess why his friends are acting in such a weird way.
CHAN (a bit upset): Ok, what’s the matter?
RACH: Have you seen Monica yet?
CHAN: No, not in a while and I don’t really want to see her either…(in a sad tone) I guess it’s probably over.
PHOE: Oh! So, you know she’s engaged to Richard, then.
CHAN: WHAT?
PHOE: Or… you didn’t.
CHAN (angry): That doesn’t surprise me. But, I was still supposing she wouldn’t announce that to you so soon and like that… (sad) like nothing happened between us.
ROSS: So, you know she was going to marry him?
CHAN: Not really…
***Flashback***
Chandler and Monica were in their apartment, alone, trying to work things out.
CHAN: So, you’re going to marry him? Do you know that I AM your boyfriend?
MON: I’m not going to. It’s like the hundredth time I tell you that, you have to believe me!
CHAN: How could I? Your excuse is so lame!
MON: But it’s the truth!
CHAN (mad): Right!!
***Back to present***
CHAN: I guess I wasn’t sure she would do that… But now, I am. That’s a good thing! Now, I know I don’t have to talk to her anymore…
Chandler says that with relieve, but, in fact, he isn’t relieved at all: how could he stay alive if he is never going to talk to Monica again? Her best friend, her soulmate, her all? In fact, he isn’t sure she still is all that for him. He thought he knew her and, suddenly, she acts like he would never have guess she could act… she acts like she barely knows him.
They are all looking at him with pity. He notices that and answers at their silent question.
CHAN (with tears in his eyes): I will be fine, don’t worry…
He goes into Joey’s room and shuts the door.
(To be continued)
Hope you enjoy it!
