| About Me |
| =About me...hmm...what should I say? Well, for starters, my name is Jessica. I'm 17 years old and a year away from graduating (ooooh, scary!!). I'm pretty "artsy," I guess. I'm constantly drawing, I love photography, and I also love playing my flute. This is the first year in 7 years that I haven't been in the marching/symphonic band at school and it was pretty weird at first. I've played in the school band since the 4th grade, but because the high school 'bandos' seemed to be really cliquey (with exceptions.....love you guys! You know who you are!!), I no longer enjoyed it. The funny thing is, since I dropped it, I've played more on my own. Playing now is more of a stress-reliever for me than it used to be. I used to have the pressure of solos and all that junk on my mind constantly, but now it's just fun and playing is something I want to do. Wow, anyway, *cough*, um, sorry about that. I didn't meant to, uh, stray off topic....lol. You can see a lot of my sketches by clicking here. Everyone always asks me, "How did you get so good at drawing horses?" Um, HOW THE HECK DO I KNOW!? Seriously, I don't know. I guess the logical answer would be I've just been drawing them for so long...lol. When I was younger, "My Little Pony" was my favorite thing in the world. I was always drawing pink and purple ponies with multi-color manes and tails, with hearts or flowers on their bums. Most of the time they came out looking like misshapen ant eaters or something... But anyway, I know I'm no where near as talented as some of the professional equine artists you see out there. I'm not claiming to be. If you came to my site expecting "professional" artwork....I guess all I have to say is sorry! :-) I've just gotten into photography the past few years. There's just something about capturing certain moments on film that is extremely intriguing and exciting to me. My favorite subjects are *of course* animals. I'd love to get some really great shots of horses, but I think I'd have to stand out in a horse field for hours on end to get some running and playing pics (not that I'd complain, lol). To see some of my photographs, click here. Once again, I'm not a professional photographer. This is just something that I enjoy doing and would like to show others. So I hope no one came here looking for that type of work. ;-) If you know one thing about me, it should be that I'm a total animal-nut. Dogs, rabbits, birds, horses, whales, dolphins.....whatever. Doesn't matter. The only critters that scare me are moths and some other bugs (moths are SO evil!!!!). Horses are my favorite animal, by far. I do not have my own, unfortunately, but thanks to some VERY kind people, I have been given the opportunity to ride and sort of care for a horse. She is the white horse pictured on the very first page of the site and is also on my horses photo page. Her name is Missy, she's a 7 year old Tennessee Walking Horse, and is actually a maximum sabino in color (not "white"). She is a WONDERFUL horse and I have learned so much with her. She's the first Walker I've ever been around and rode and I think I'm hooked for life. If you've never ridden a TWH, you haven't lived. They have an ultra smooth gait called the "running walk." This is a very fast paced walk, ranging from 8-15mph and it is EXTREMELY smooth. Back in the days of plantations, these horses were developed to walk up and down the rows of the fields for hours so that the owners and bosses could keep an eye on the slaves. They had to be able to go a bit faster than other horses, but also needed to be able to reserve energy and keep their rider comfortable at the same time. The Tennessee Walking Horse was born!! And thank God! I can't think of a better breed. :-) I have 3 dogs, 3 rabbits, and 2 birds. I believe all of them are pictured on the site, although I'm not sure if Kandi, my budgie, is. She is really hard to take a picture of. |
