Henin Leaps into Last Eight (21/1/2002)

Justine Henin blasted her way back into form at the Australia Open on Monday, beating Russia's Elena Dementieva in straight sets, 6-0 6-3.

Henin has had a strong run up to the Open, reaching the final at the Gold Coast and the quarter finals in Sydney. But her form fell slightly earlier in the Open and she had struggled to defeat some lesser-ranked opponents.

Against 12th seeded Dementieva, however, her form returned and the Russian (who hit 28 unforced errors to Henin's 12 during the one hour, 16 minute encounter) barely had a chance. A rain delay of about an hour gave Dementieva a chance to recover slightly and give Henin some competition in the second set, but it was a futile effort.
