Shahrukh Khan

Shahrukh Khan aka SRK (born November 2, 1965, New Delhi, India) is a Bollywood Indian actor.

Born into a Muslim family of Pathan origin in Delhi, Shahrukh Khan earned a Masters in Mass Communications from Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi. His wife is Gauri Khan (formerly Gauri Chibba), a Punjabi girl from Delhi. He has a son named Aryan Khan, and a daughter named Suhana Khan.

Movie Career

He first entered the limelight with his role as 'Abhimanyu' in the tele-serial Fauji (Soldier). He shot to stardom in his two successive roles as a paranoid lover in Baazigar (1992) and Darr (1993), by Yash Chopra. He followed these roles with a string of successful love stories, including Koyla, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Karan Arjun, Pardes, and Dil to Pagal Hai.

His association with Karan Johar and Yash Johar has resulted in such successful hits as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kal Ho Na Ho.

Shahrukh has shared good onscreen chemistry with many of his female co-stars. All of the five movies in which he co-starred with actress Kajol were box office hits. His association with Madhuri Dixit in several movies has also been commercially successful, most notably in Anjaam, Koyla, Dil to Pagal Hai and Devdas.

Shahrukh also owns a production house called Dreamz Unlimited along with actress Juhi Chawla (a friend ever since they co-starred in Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman) and film director Aziz Mirza. In 2004, his production house Red Chilles Entertainment produced the biggest hit of the year Main Hoon Na.

Despite his success, critics and others have often criticized Shahrukh for sticking to "safe" romantic roles (such as the ones he portrays in all of Karan Johar's films). Swades, however, silenced many of these dissenting opinions; it featured Shahrukh in a low-key and understated performance that was in utter contrast to his previous efforts.

Awards

Shahrukh has won six Filmfare awards for Best Actor. The latest award was given in 2005 for his role in Swades as an Indian-American NASA engineer who finds new meaning in his life when he encounters life in rural India.

In addition to acting, Shahrukh also performs on many stage shows (showcasing his former movies) as well as hosting them throughout India and abroad. His recent show, "Temptations", included celebrities such as Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherji, Preity Zinta, Arjun Rampal and former Miss World Priyanka Chopra and was an international commercial success.
