1 May 2005 I'm expecting my first baby. The baby is due this month! I'm happy, excited, freaking out; I don't know what to think. My life is going to change forever. wow! Sometimes I have lots of doubts and fears that I will not be able to do many of the things that I enjoy doing now. I worry that I will miss the life I had before the baby came along

5 May 2005 I can't believe this: a crisis at work. Massive amounts of overtime. Why this month? Urgh! The extra money will be great! But the baby is due at any time! I wanna do my job, but I also wanna be there for mom and baby! My boss is gonna kill me if this baby comes too soon. This month is gonna be crazy. What happed was that there is a program in which we are only required to run a full end test on certain percentage of the products. If the products that we test have certain failure criteria that is BAD. Then we must test 100% of the products. There are over 400 items that my department must test before the end of the month, we've been scheduled to work over-time every week-end in the month of May.

10 May 2005 Last night (and the night before) Adrianna informed me that she has been having 'twingy' sensations and contractions. She has been having lots of 'Braxton Hicks' contractions. This is driving me crazy: this baby could come any time! She thinks the baby could come anytime after Friday of this week. I don't know how she knows that?!? She said it could be "days and days, or not"......!?!

11 May 2005 Still having lots of Braxton Hicks contractions, and lots of twingy sensations down there. As we figured out a few weeks ago the baby is still probably posterior in the uterus. That could explain the back pain Adrianna is having.

11 May 2005 3:00pm Regarding work: I think we've gotten a handle on the program we're struggling with. We're over half way through, I'm sure we'll get it done in plenty of time. At this point I don't think its quite the crisis it was.

11 May 2005 10:00pm Adrianna had an appointment with the mid-wife Jules earlier today. They found out that Adrianna is dilated to 2 cm and effaced 50%! Oh, and the baby is no longer in the posterior position, thats a good thing. What does all this mean? Well, the baby really could come any day now! But as these things go; no one can ever know for sure. The pregnancy books say the same thing; could be any day or not, you just never know. I'm getting really nervous, she still seems calm.

13 May 2005 Steady as she goes. Adrianna is still working at her part time job at the library. She is doing good, still feeling sensations down around the lower uterus, and feeling some achy back pain sometimes. Basically feeling ready to have a baby!

16 May 2005 No baby yet. Adrianna is feeling READY! Its cool, we can really feel the baby moving around in her belly. We can press on her belly and actually feel the baby inside! We practiced setting up the labor tub. We are not planning an underwater birth, but we got an inflatable tub from the midwife for Adrianna to sit in to ease the sensations during labor.

19 May 2005 Adrianna had an appointment with the midwife today. She is dilated a little more. The baby is at 0 station. She also had her membranes stripped, which could bring on labor soon!

22 May 2005 No baby yet. We're still waiting. Adrianna thinks she may have lost her mucus plug (ewwww! that sounds gross; almost as creepy sounding as 'stripping the membranes'. Some of this stuff sounds so strange to a guy with no birth/pregnancy experience. C'mon 'mucus plugs', 'stripping membranes': are we having a baby or an alien?!? just kidding!) Well, maybe we're getting a little ahead of ourselves. The predicted due date is May 30, still days away. Her first two babies both came about two weeks before their due dates, so we just thought this baby would too. Time will tell......

23 May 2005 Yeah! I just got to see the new Star Wars movie! It wa awesome! The baby, oh the baby. No, baby yet. Here's some news: at the last midwife appointment Adrianna was found to be dilated to about 4 maybe even 5 cm and she is effaced 60%! Steady progress.

26 May 2005 Have I said yet that we are READY?!? Well, we are, we are READY!!! Adrianna just had an appointment with the midwife this morning. She is now dilated to 7 and effaced 70% !!! How much more ready do we need to be?!? She also got those membranes stripped again. I guess those membranes didn't take the hint the first time, hopefully now they'll get the message.

27 May 2005 3:49am LEO is here! Leo Craig Costello Martin was born! He weighed 8 lbs 6 oz. and was 21 inches long at birth. He is so dang sweet and cute!!! The birth went great! Adrianna was so awesome, she did so good. It was so amazing. She did an all natural birth at home. The midwife, Jules was great, she had it all under control. Being at this birth, watching my son be born was the most amazing experience of my life!

28 May 2005 We're all doing great! Leo is great! He just gets more cute every moment. This baby is hungry! He has been nursing all day it seems. Caleb and Claudia are so great, they love their new little brother so much, so much so, they're fighting over who gets to hold him.

3 June 2005 We're doing great! So happy to have little Leo with us! He is so cute! Leo is doing great! He's already got a good amount of brown hair (like his daddy). He's hungry all the time! (like his daddy) He is great about sleeping thru the night, he only seems to wake us once each night so far. Changing lots of poopy diapers. We took him out for a little walk outside for the first time yesterday.
