STORY: Hercule's 9th Labour was to eliminate a threat fot the village near a lake called Stymphalis. The threat came from a group of wild birds that were not ordinary. Their extraordinary nature consisted of their killing desire, their enormous strength and their iron wings who could easily kill as well as fly.
Hercule's task wasn't easy. He couldn't penetrate the birds' armour with ordinary weapons. Only a very good archer good aim the birds. And still after aiming and killing some the archer had to have time enough to reload and aim the others before coming crawling on him and taring him to pieces.
Hecrules knew that when entering the field of Stymphalis there wouldn't be any way back. He would be surrounded by the birds and he wouldn't be able to back off, nor would he have any time to rest.
After carrefully considering his upcoming task Hercules decided to enter the field with a fire torch in his right hand. The birds avoided the fire long enough for him to start a fire in the center of the field using dry grass and dump he found there.
The fire formed a circle around Hercule, a circle of safety, a circle inside of which he kneeled and started aiming the birds one after the other with his bow. One after the other the birds were falling. They were crawling to him, full of hate and dispare for they couldn't come near the fire.
They were helpless... The ones that survived their slaughter left and never showed their face again...
SYMBOLS: Hercules has managed to escape the everyday prison during last labour. He had managed to change his perpective and be from now on able to "see" things without getting "attached" emotionally or "provoked" by needs and necessities of our mortal existence. True needs had to be satisfied, but that wasn't an obstacle to perspective anymore, just a little stawling. Since Scoprio Hercules has confidence in his spirit, not only in his own strength. He counts on his soul, giving him intuition. He doesn't need to think about everything before entering a situation. He trusts his instincts after having mastered them during the past labours.
Hercules is a magician in this labour. Like all magician and most Sags, he faces the challenge of entering situations where he knows he can't get out from. Sags, after having mastered mortal needs, face destiny quite clearly and their problem during their lifetime is whether they should give in into something they know already the dangers of.
Like a magician, a Sag knows that under these difficult circumastances, it is foolish to go alone and divine help is needed. So a Sag forms a protective circle, a circle of friends in real life, a magic circle in magic rituals, a field where he can find refuge from evil forces beyond human. In real life evil forces are plainly the rumors. What people think, the public opinion. A Sag always cares for his public image because he knows that the wild birds of gossip will always try to tare him to pieces and once having entered a public place or having taken a public position these birds will attack the apparently defenceless public figures. But Sags always watch their backs.
The circle of friends and supporters keeps the gossipers away and the Sag aims and kills every wild bird threating the cause ahead. No armour can protect from Sag's arrow, cause a Sag's mind is clear, no tricks can fool him and he always knows the weakest spot. A Sag's challenge is not how to complete the mission, that he knows he can do. It is the fact that he listens to his soul clearly (whereas others can't) and he know what must be done but once entering a situation, he knows he can't go back on his decision. So he will have to sacrifice everything he had done in his life up to that point. The currents of fate always run in one direction and that is forward. And a Sag's duty is to learn how to give in, to sacrifice what he has tried for so long to protect, in a couple of words, to maintain REAL courage and become a spiritual warrior.
