Hercules 5th Labour (Leo)...

STORY: Hercule's 5th labour was to save the people from Nemea from a fearsum lion that wondered around, killed people and destroyed their crops. Hercule felt confident about himself and visited the city of Nemea, where he fell across people running away. Hercules asked on the roads where the lion was and followed the instructions of the terrified people. He walked along a road leading to the place the lion was last seen and noticed how he was the only one following this direction whereas everyone else was facing him and went away. Suddenly as he was walking on the road the lion jumped before him from inside the bushes. They looked each other trying to scare one another but Hercules strangely fell no fear. He was equally fearsum as the lion and the lion backed off as if it has realised it. As suddenly as it jumped in front of him so suddenly it left the road and went back into the bushes to dissapear. Yet the war wasn't over. Hercules still had to trail the lion, inprison it and kill it. He followed the lion from field to field from road to road from one place to another. Finally he managed to force it to get into a cave. He entered the cave himself eager to find the lion and kill it. Yet the lion proved smarte than him. He walked on and on inside the cave until he reached a second exit. Once there he heard the roat of the lion behind him. He turned to the other side and ran behind the lion once more, but once again he reached the first exit having the lion behind him. Hercules had to find out something clever to put this to an end. So he found some wooden trunks which he used to close one exit of the cave. After this the lion had no other choice but to face him. Indeed the lion appeared behind him and both of them begun a fearsum battle Hercules facing the lion barehanded. He had no other choice since no weapons were usuful against this creature. At last and after a terrible battle he managed to kill the beast.

SYMBOLS: Hercule's battle against the lion is the next very important crisis on the road to self perfection, on the road of the esoteric student. The first one was the sign of Taurus, where the student had to overcome his material needs, his need for posessiveness, his personal needs against those of the group. Now the next challenge on the fixed signs' cross would be the sign of Leo, where the student would have to abandon his/her pride. In Leo the student has passed away from Cancer's fear and lack of will. In Leo the problem is exactly the opposite. The will is too strong and has to be mastered. In Leo all 4 matters that consist the human mortal side are perfect and so is the personal will. But the student has to learn how to submit his personal will to the common good. The only way to do it is to face himself. The lion Hercules faces is noone else but his own ego, not only strong and fearsum to everyone else (like Leo people that are too arrogant and have no sence of common good and destroy everything) but it is also clever enough to avoid confrontation with the master, the student's soul which has to master it. The challenge for Leo people is exactly that, to learn to swallow their pride, to submit their big ego to the call of their soul. It is a very difficult task, since the animal is fearsum and to master it persistence but also cleverness is needed (such as Herculeses) in order to leave the beast no way out.
