ABOUT CHRISTOPHER
My 2 1/2-y-o son has been delayed in milestones(rolled over at 1 year, sat up at 16 months, crawled @ 21mos, started cruising at 25mos, walking at 28mos). We see a neurologist (have been since he was 8 mos), an orthopedist, and a genetic spec. He has therapy (PT, OT, SI, and Speech)7 times a week.With the last round of testing he is showing a 50% delay with physical motor skills,a 31% delay with his adaptive skills, a 30% delay with both his social skills and speech/communication. As you can guess we tend to stay busy! The sad thing is nobody can give us any answers as to what might be causing these delays. Though we have started gentic testing and are holding out hope that maybe just maybe we will find something out. We do know that he doesn't have FX which we were concerned about since he does show several autistic traits.
Things we have noticed with Christopher:
* He does have a large head.
* He tends to sweat alot (while eating, sleeping, playing).
* He hates to get in water. He has gotten alot better with bath time though he still jerks when the water touches him he isn't screaming anymore.
*He has had a sensory issue with his feet but has gotten better about it - will even stand in grass without screaming. Of course this also is the problem with water he doesn't like the way it feels on his tummy, back, legs, face and feet.
* He has low muscle tone which is worse on his right side.
* He is either constantly chewing his tongue or hanging it out of his mouth.
*He is extremely hard to settle down for bed and is restless while sleeping, though he does sleep through the night (started sleeping all night at about 18 months).
*He eats alot and tends to overstuff his mouth but he doesn't choke. He uses a fork or spoon-- just doesn't actually get anything in his mouth with the spoon but does great with the fork.
* He has to have a "warming-up" time even with people he knows like my parents.
* He is a very loving child.
* His speech is behind. He can get across what he needs by either talking or signing.
* He tends to be shy around other people.
* He is happy to play by himself. For that matter he is a happy boy! Always has a smile.
* He's smart.. he will repeat what you do, put puzzles together, and "sing"along with The Wiggles.
* He is a sorter and liner - with everything. He loves to sort by color.

He has made so much progress. And we get so tickled just seeing him do "normal" things like walk down the drive or play in his sandbox. These are things we were never sure he would be able to do. I think my favorite time of day is when we sing together - I am sure his favorite time is when Brother and Sister come home from school (LOL) - He loves to play outside which is interesting because he wants his shoes off in the sandbox but doesn't like the way the grass feels on his feet so we do alot of putting shoes on and taking them off! I wish you could watch him "jump" he can't really do it but boy he tries! He wants to do everything Brother and Sister do - It is so sweet!
