WELCOME TO ANNIE AND MURPHY'S PAGE (or... the happily-ever-after "tail" of 2 rescues, as told by their family)
|
This is Christmas morning, 2003. At first glance, it's a simple shot of an ordinary woman-- in her jammies, with a couple of dogs. Nothing special... really, right? You can't see the presents piled up under the sparkling tree, or the holiday decorations throughout the house...but you can see the special gift this season---"Murphy", the Chesapeake Bay Retriever we adopted from the CBRR&R , just weeks before.

"Annie" was the first "CBR" rescue to find her forever home, here. She made the transition from a "field trials" failure (somewhat headstrong) accustomed to kennel life...to an indoor, family member with exceptional ease. Learning and adapting has always come easily for Annie, given her incredible intelligence. She has many natural gifts that are hallmarks of her special breed. Athletic, agile, alert and driven. Still, it is her extensive "vocabulary" that is truly remarkable. In fact, I believe she has a keener grasp of English than many people.., so while it may be rare that she does not know what you want---the real challenge is to convince her that it is also what she wants.
I decided last fall, that life with Annie as a companion had been such a rewarding experience, that I wanted to rescue another Chessie. My search began with the website (see link above) where I filled my application to adopt a young male. I saw a photo of an emaciated middle-aged male named Murphy. A neglected boy from the deep south. His joyful expression, in spite of his pathetic life story prompted the trip to bring Murphy "home" to Canada. Annie has taught Murph how to sleep on the good furniture...swim in the lakes (Yes! He had to learn to swim!) and dig for mice in that odd white stuff called "snow". HAPPY TAILS TO ALL!
