My name is Marcia Helm. I have been rescuing and training a variety of dogs since I was old enough to come up with excuses to bring them home when I'd find them! From bringing them home on my horse when I'd find them while out horseback riding the middle of the desert covered in cactus waiting to become coyote food, to the ones who literally just showed up on the front porch. I've rescued, found, adopted, helped, taken in, or been a temporary home to many different breeds, sizes, and personalities over the years.
What brought me to training was honestly the lack of funds to take all these dogs to "traditional" obedience classes. I've also been specializing in dogs who were just too scared, too starved, too terrified, too unhealthy, or just no where near ready to be introduced to a group type of training setting. I seem to have a special touch with dogs that possibly shouldn't survive, much less become friendly, loving pets, so with these dogs I take a different approach when it comes to making them comfortable and at ease in a new home, and then adding in training, obedience, housebreaking, and disipline.
My training follows that logic. I find that most troubles come from how the dog interacts with the family at home and find that it's much more effective to see and deal with YOUR specific problems in YOUR home. I find it takes less lessons and you get results more quickly by training this way. It is also the only option for owners with busy schedules, dogs who don't get along with other dogs or other people, or don't ride well in cars or have a number of other problems that make weekly sessions impracticle and more stressful on everyone involved. I make the promise that if on my first visit you don't believe you or your dog haven't learned anything, then don't pay me and it's just been nice meeting a fellow dog lover. |
