Istana and Reneth

Their Story

Talking to yourself was never a good thing, and while Istana had gotten used to using her mind to speak to Reneth, still she found herself speaking outloud, wondering about things in such a way that people nudged each other as they walked by. If only they knew that someone was on the other end! Unfortunatly, it had only been a couple of months since she had bonded, and not everyone was aware that this slightly narcotic young thing was going to be a gold rider.

'Queen rider.' Reneth corrected mildly.

"Oh, what ever." she said, and again someone looked at her, tilting her head. "I'm talking to my dragon." she said, but this only made them look at her as if she was even more wierd.

'You can do it, you know.' Reneth teased. 'You don't need to speak like that.'

Istana snorted. She had written to Oscar only to have her message ignored. It was as if that boy had nothing on his mind except for his bronze! She had been so thrilled when she had found out, but now there was something more at play-- competitiveness. Did he even think he and his bonded would be better than her and Reneth? Which reminded her...

'Don't we have class now?' she asked, using a special punch.

'You're too loud.' Reneth complained, and from the other side of the Aurie the gold rubbed her head as if something had exploded inside. 'Yes, we do.'

'Doesn't that mean we're skiving?' she wondered.

Reneth snorted. 'Took you long enough. I thought we were avoiding class on purpose.'

Istana grinned, and then it fell. The last time they had been told to go to a night class to learn about the extent night vision and the humidity had an effect, she had been a little bit... forgetful. And had been forced to clean the dragon latrines for ages.

Well, even if adult dragons could go between, the hatchlings had to dump their business somewhere...

'Why didn't you remind me?' she asked.

Reneth chortled, or would have, except she was a little bit scared of what her rider would do.

'I...forgot?' she offered. 'But hey, look at it this way! You can talk mentally better now!'

Huh... why did the fledgling have a feeling she should have kept her mouth shut?
