Playoff Game #2 FINAL GAME OF SEASON
Tiger bats blunt Axe
dream
The
South Eugene Axemen
ended
their season on Monday at Tigard falling to the #1
seed Tigers 14-3. South jumped out on top 2-0 behind
five first inning hits. Tigard came back with one in
their half of the first and five more in the second
on a two out bases loaded clearing triple near the
230 fence in a tricky right field, just out of reach
of Axe right fielder Ethan Trachtenberg. Senior
Michael Ward gamely took the ball on two days
rest—the first time Ward has pitched on two days
rest in memory. Unfortunately ,Ward’s big heart
wasn’t enough to tame the Tiger bats. South loaded
the bases twice in the first four innings with
nobody out, but three double plays prevented the Axe
from keeping this one close. Up 8-3 in the sixth,
Tigard added six runs to blow the game open. It was
a peculiar game on a peculiar field—Tigard plays on
a turf football field with bizarre dimensions, a
field in this reporter’s opinion, not state playoff
worthy. Be that as it may, it’s an earned advantage
and Tigard made the most of it. One key to success
in the post-season is seeding. Finishing fourth in
the Midwestern League South Eugene had a tough road
to hoe. Ward was brilliant on Friday, but
unfortunately, that made him more vulnerable today
and his teammates couldn’t match their sharp opening
effort in the sub round at Civic on Friday. Though
South Eugene becomes the first Midwestern League
team to fall, the season will be remembered for a
second straight trip to the state playoffs with a
6-2 second half of the season, highlighted by wins
over Churchill, North, Lebanon and Thurston. South
will lose three senior starters and four seniors
overall. We tip our cap to seniors Tyler
Wiser, Aaron Pratt, Nate Wilson-Traisman and Michael
Ward for their commitment, hard work and
love of game. Their efforts have helped South Eugene
to unprecedented success, and their teammates will
hope to further that ascension next season.

First Round Playoff Game
Threes are wild in South Eugene Playoff
opening win
Threes were wild as South Eugene's three starting
seniors led the Axemen to a 6-0 home victory over Centennial on Friday at
Civic Stadium. Senior Ace #33 Michael Ward
scattered three harmless hits, senior shortstop
Nate Wilson-Traisman was 3-3
and Senior first baseman Aaron Pratt
played his usual solid defensive game and along with Wilson-Traisman scored
three of South's six runs. The Axemen were not cooled off by the rainy day
weather, advancing to play at #1 seed Tigard this Monday.
A day after being named first team
all Midwestern League and winning a gold glove, senior shortstop
Wilson-Traisman was the
offensive catalyst in South's victory with two singles, a double and two
rbi's. Ward was dominant in limiting Centennial to one outfield hit. With a
4-0 lead, South went to Junior hurler Dan
O'Brien who pitched no-hit ball over the last two innings
preserving the shutout.
It was a festive atmosphere under
cloudy skies at Civic, the crowd populated by former South players, current
Midwestern league players, advance scouts and the usual boisterous South
student section. On this day, South-Centennial was the only game in town.
The game had a little of the unusual, with sophomore sensation
Travis Rooke-Ley being picked
off second with a hidden ball trick (it fooled this reporter) though
Rooke-Ley more than made up for this embarrassing moment with an all-star
catch galloping deep in center field to quell the only Centennial threat of
the game. Rooke-Ley, a pitcher's best friend, continues to earn his nickname
"1/3rd" by covering ground like no other center fielder. His defensive play
was the only help Ward needed all day.
South played an errorless game,
doing the little things as evidenced by their final sixth inning run,
beginning with a Wilson-Traisman
single, followed by a Ethan Trachtenberg
single and error that scored Wilson-Traisman ("Tracht" to second),
Sam Holman's
intelligent ground ball to the right side moving Trachtenberg to third; the
sequence concluding with Evan Brown's
sacrifice fly rbi. To the devout, this kind of baseball is balletic in it's
nuance and beauty. In simpler terms--it's what winning teams do. Friday,
South Eugene was a fun team to watch. As they move on, South can
be confident of their capability to compete with any team when they play
like this.
The question facing South Eugene
Coach Cole Nagler heading into Monday's matchup with #1 Tigard (where South
will be a decided underdog) is how much can he count on from Senior horse
Ward on two days rest? Can Ward/O'Brien team up again as a formidable 1-2
punch? For now, South fans are smiling with playoff wins in consecutive
years and the three South seniors don't appear ready to hang up their Axe
jerseys just yet. Hungry to keep on playing, the Axemen and their fans will
drive up I-5 Monday afternoon intent on felling the mighty Tigard Tigers.

Willamette upends
Axemen in meaningless season finale 13 - 7
No disrespect intended
to anyone, particularly the Willamette Wolverines
who swept the South Eugene Axemen this season by
virtue of yesterday's 13-7 win. But yesterday's game
evoked memories of Kidsports games from
years past, where everyone plays a different
position, and even with a scorecard you can't tell
who's playing where. Coach Nagler honored Senior Day
by giving playing time to players who've worked hard
all year without seeing much game action. This
necessitated flipping the lineup around which
ultimately contributed to a disastrous sixth inning
when Willamette sent twenty or thirty batters to the
plate and scored twelve runs. At least five Axe
errors in the inning kept things happy for
Willamette and miserable for Axe players and fans (was
it my imagination or did the temperature drop twenty
degrees in that sick sixth?). North's victory
over Thurston came across the wire somewhere in all
of this, making the carnival on the field even more
meaningless. After a couple of showers and a stiff
drink (rest assured this writer is well over 21)
three words came to mind. LET IT GO. It's time to
look ahead to the post-season and
South hosts a playoff
game this Friday at Civic
Wednesday May 10th
South rides Big Train back to State Playoffs
To his friends he's "Moose", to his family he's
Michael, but to a particular legion of fans who've been watching him
since his youth, he's "Big Train" Ward. Every time Ward has taken the
bump since his junior days, he gives his team their best chance to win.
South's prospects for a state playoff run will rest squarely on the
broad shoulders of their senior ace, one of Oregon's finest pitchers.
Wednesday at Eugene's Civic Stadium, the
Axemen and Lebanon Warriors faced off in a "win and in" game, with the
loser likely to be on the outside looking in come playoff time. Through
the first three innings the Warriors had the best of it and clung to a
1-0 lead. Lebanon's Nate Hiebert befuddled South's hitters with an array
of impressive off-speed pitches. But in the fourth, South broke through
with four big two-out hits. The first three came off the bats of Juniors
Aaron Pratt, Dan'OBrien and Jack Carpenter and South
took a 4-1 lead. After a walk to catcher Ben Kiesse loaded the bases,
senior shortstop Nate Wilson-Traisman skied a fly ball
that found the "Bermuda Triangle" behind second base, dropping between
three Warrior fielders and clearing the bases. By inning's end, South
had pushed across eight runs and there was no looking back. Ward cruised
the rest of the way, throwing his usual intelligent, efficient game.
Make no mistake, Ward is a pitcher who knows what to do when he has a
lead.
As South
waits for the results from the rest of the league to determine their
seeding, two things are clear. Ward will pitch their first game and pose
a formidable challenge to whoever the Axemen face, and the South Eugene
Axeman baseball team is returning to the State Playoffs in consecutive
years for the first time in 45 years. Maybe "mwl" archivist Gary Haliski
or South Eugene athletic director Dave Hancock can dig up a member of
the Axe team of 1961-62 to throw out the first pitch?

South
keeps playoff dreams alive with 8-6 win at Thurston
It's rarely an easy win for the
South Eugene Axemen but
they managed to win their third straight game and five of their last six
in an 8-6 win at Thurston on Monday. South stayed on track for a return
to the state playoffs with a three spot in both the fifth and sixth
innings, and held on for the win, due in part to a nifty seventh
inning defensive play by senior shortstop Nate Wilson-Traisman, ranging
into the "Bermuda triangle" in short center field to make the knee high
catch of a Thurston pop that had trouble written all over it. After that
defensive gem, an invigorated Travis Rooke-Ley, shrugged off his fatigue
to nail down the save, completing three innings of solid relief.
After stretching an early 2-1 lead to 5-1 in
the fifth, Junior Dan O'Brien got in trouble and gave way to sophomore
Rooke-Ley who came in and shut down the Colts rally with the tying runs
on base, and threw a flawless sixth. South held an 8-4 lead going into
the final frame but seemed to lose a little focus and the Colts brought
the tying run to the plate, before Rooke-Ley got the final two outs
on harmless infield pop-ups.
South's hit parade was led by
sophomore's Ethan Trachtenberg's three hits, and Evan Brown's two hits.
All in all, you could say South's super sophomore's saved the day.
Next up
for South is a home game vs. playoff rival Lebanon on Wednesday, pitting
Lebanon's Nathan Hiebert against South Ace Michael Ward.
Dan Straily
had a double and 2 RBI's for Thurston.

Axemen upend Lancers behind Ward's
complete game
South
Eugene's Michael Ward has been
pitching against or playing with many of the
Churchill Lancers (on summer all-star teams) for
years and until today he had never beaten the
Lancer's in league play. Until today.
Ward would not be denied going all the way in
South's home win over league leading Churchill. In
the seventh inning with the tying run at the
plate, Ward was clocked at 88 mph striking out
first Jacob Franke and then Drew Irsfeld to end
the game. Make no mistake about it, the partisan
South crowd collectively held their breath as
league leading Churchill fell just short of a
monumental comeback. Down 7-1 and 8-2, due to
South's timely hitting and Churchill's
uncharacteristic sloppy fielding, the Lancer's
comeback fell short as Ward would not be denied.
South sophomore Evan Brown played
huge, with two key inning ending defensive plays
to thwart Lancer rallies, along with two hits.
Young Brown has struggled at times in the field
this season and was visibly pumped at his solid
play in today's win. Though suffering their second
consecutive loss and third loss in four games
Churchill has clinched a playoff spot. This was a
huge win for South as they aim to return to the
state playoffs. South will travel to Thurston on
Monday and close out the regular season at home
vs. Lebanon on Wednesday with Ward on the bump,
and Willamette on Friday. With today's win,
South's destiny is in their hands.
Wednesday May 3rd
Nate Wilson Traisman and
Jack Carpenter paced South's offense and
Travis Rooke-Ley pitched 5 1/3rd solid innings
as South Eugene cruised to an 11-4 win at Springfield.
Wilson-Traisman hit his third home run of
the season and had four rbi's, and Carpenter added three hits
and was on base four times for the Axemen. With three of their
four remaining games at home, South stays in the hunt for the
two remaining playoff spots with North Eugene, Lebanon and the
suddenly hot Thurston Colts. Ace Michael Ward will face
Churchill on Friday, and Lebanon next Wednesday, while Travis
Rooke-Ley or Dan O'Brien will face the Colts at Thurston on
Monday.

Sheldon 10 South Eugene 7
Another Freaky Friday no fun for Axemen
With
second place in the Midwestern league arguably on
the line, the Sheldon Irish came back from 3-0 and
7-3 deficits to stun South Eugene 10-7 on Friday.
The Axemen came out strong jumping to an early 3-0
lead. After Sheldon tied it in the third, South
jumped on Sheldon senior Corey Moran for four
more. With Axe ace Michael Ward ready in reserve
things looked good for South, but Junior Dan
O'Brien was hit hard and the Axemen once again
struggled on the bases, stranding runners, and
kicking the ball around the field. Sheldon took
advantage of South's errors and by the time Ward
entered the game to close the barn door, the
horses were long gone. Sheldon's Brandon Hayes
pitched scoreless ball over the last three
innings, escaping several seemingly inescapable
jams. Something about Friday's doesn't seem to
bring out the best in the Axemen. Be that as it
may, South still has their sights set on a playoff
spot, and will take advantage of a bye on Monday
to prepare for games at Springfield on Wed. and a
home tester against first place Churchill you
guessed it--next Friday.

South Eugene 3
Marshfield 1
A good pitching duel by pitchers who were often
in trouble but working their ways out of jams.
South's Rooke-Ley k'd 8 on the day, 3 of the K's
were the last out of the inning in critical
situations. Pirate Rexine didn't have his normally
unhittable slider picking the corners. so he let his
fielders do a superb job. The game started off with
SE base coaches thinking they saw chalk fly with two
on, but it was a foul ball. (Found out later the
outfielder stepped on the line, kicking up the
chalk) South didn't score in the first, but
the Pirates did on a PB/WP. In the 4th, SE's
Rooke-Ley got out of a bases loaded jam by K'ing two
Pirates. SE's Wilson-Traisman popped a solo bomb to
left center to ice game, that followed a rbi double
earlier in the game. The bomb was unusual for Coos
Bay, as the winds are usually blowing hard to right
field, chopping down most balls hit towards the big
bank.
Monday April 24th
South sweeps past
North 4-1
Paced by seniors
Nate Wilson-Traisman and
Michael Ward, South Eugene swept North
Eugene with a 4-1 home victory on Monday. Ward beat
the Highlanders for the second time this season,
scattering four hits and striking out six in the
complete game victory. South was led offensively and
defensively by Wilson-Traisman who was 2-3 with a
triple, single, rbi, run scored and a stolen base.
In the field Wilson-Traisman played a superb
shortstop to quell North's attempt to rally against
Ward. South returned to the solid defensive play
that characterized their early season success. Ethan
Trachtenberg anchored a realigned outfield with
strong play in right, and Jack Carpenter returned
from absence to start at 2b, looking sharp in
turning a slick 4-6-3 double play with Wilson-Traisman.
South will travel to Marshfield on Wednesday, where
either Rooke-Ley or O'Brien will face the Pirate's
ace Rexine.

South stumbles in 9-8 slugfest @ Willamette
The frigid air swirling around Willamette's Varsity
field Friday evening proved to be an ill wind
for the South Eugene Axemen. Battling a scrappy
Wolverine team that jumped on South's pitching early
and often, the Axeman came back from an 8-4 deficit
to tie the game in the sixth, only to see Willamette
push across the eventual winning run in their half
of the sixth in a 9-8 Willamette win. South jumped
out to an early first inning 3-0 lead but Willamette
stormed back with five runs in the first and two
more in the second. Nate Wilson-Traisman's first
home run of the season cut the lead to 7-4 after
two. Sophomore Aaron Turk relieved teammate Ethan
Trachtenberg and held Willamette to one run in three
solid innings of middle relief work to keep South in
the game. The Axemen threatened in every inning, but
left a bus load of runners on base. Combined
with innumerable fielding, throwing, and base
running mistakes, the Axemen just didn't have their
"A" game. Under “Candlestick” wind
conditions, Willamette made the critical plays
to earn the one run victory.
As
the second half of the season begins next week—South
Eugene will have to rebound from the psychological
weight of yesterday's defeat and two one-run losses
in a 1-3 week, if they are to stay competitive in
what now will be an uphill battle to return to the
state playoffs. With the first half of the season in
the book, the scores indicate that outside of the
Churchill Lancers, there’s enough parity across the
league, that no games can be taken lightly.

South rides
Rooke-Ley to 6-2 home win over Colts
South Eugene
Sophomore Travis Rooke-Ley showing a poise
well beyond his years, scattered six hits as the Axemen defeated
Thurston 6-2 at Civic Stadium on Thursday. As leadoff man, Rooke-Ley
started South's scoring with a first inning single, stole second
and scored on catcher Ben Kiesse's single.
Senior shortstop
Nate Wilson-Traisman
had three of South's
ten hits for the game, driving in one and scoring twice. South saw a
3-0 lead cut to 3-2 in the sixth, but added three insurance runs in the
bottom half of the frame and Rooke-Ley cruised through the seventh for
the complete game victory. Rooke-Ley was a needed stopper for the
Axemen after two consecutive losses and served notice that he is a
formidable #3 starter behind Ward and O'Brien in South's deep starting
staff.
Wednesday April 19
South falls to 3-3, losing late at
Lebanon
The Axemen dropped their second straight and fell to
.500 in league play losing 4-3 at Lebanon. South led 3-1 as late as the fifth
inning before surrending the lead in the sixth. Spotting fielding, and mental
laspses did in the Axemen. South lost three runners on the bases, two at the
plate, missing opportunities to build on their early lead. Lebanon improves to
5-2 and second place in league. South will host Thurston tomorrow afternoon in
an important game for both teams, hoping to keep pace in what looks to be a
tight season long race for playoff position (wire service
report filed from SEHS bus 4/19/06)
Tuesday April 18
South miscues keep Churchill undefeated
In a showdown between the Midwestern league's two top
teams and two top pitchers Churchill's Jerod
Thompson bested South's Michael
Ward on Tuesday in a 9-2 Lancer victory. The game was much
closer than the score indicates and while the hometown Lancer's scorebook
noted only two Axe errors, South's three second inning misplays accounted for
three Churchill unearned runs. After Travis
Rooke-Ley's fourth inning double cut Churchill's lead to 4-2,
two more unearned runs put the game out of reach. Two more runs in the seventh
accounted for the final score. South touched Thompson for eight hits, but
could only muster the two fourth inning runs. Ward was strong for South,
giving up two earned runs, but the Axemen had too many defensive lapses to
beat the league leading Lancers. South will travel to Lebanon on Wednesday,
host Thurston on Thursday and finish the week at Willamette on Friday.
Wednesday
April 12th REVISED
O’Brien scatters seven hits as Axe cut down Millers
Junior Dan O’Brien scattered seven hits in pitching his second
consecutive complete game as the South Eugene Axemen defeated Springfield 6-1 at
Civic Stadium on Wednesday. In raising their league record to 3-1, South’s
offense was led by senior shortstop Nate Wilson-Traisman and sophomore
center fielder Travis Rooke-Ley each with two rbi hits. Down 1-0 in the
fourth, Wilson-Traisman’s two run single down the left field line gave South the
lead and they never looked back. Rooke-Ley’s fifth inning double scored two more
and Michael Ward’s sacrifice fly, accounted for South’s rbi’s for the day
(Wilson-Traisman scored South’s final run on a passed ball). South banged
out ten hits with sophomores Evan Brown and Ethan Trachtenberg collecting
two a piece. In control the whole game, O’Brien (2-0) was never seriously
tested. The Junior is establishing himself as a formidable #2 behind senior
standout Michael Ward. With Ward throwing at Churchill on Friday, O’Brien can
expect a tougher outing next week vs. the Thurston Colts.
Friday
April 7th
Sheldon 4 – South Eugene 1
Alex Besaw, Junior standout for Sheldon proved too much for the Axemen in
handing them their first Mid-Western League loss Wednesday evening at Civic
Stadium. Besaw did not allow a runner beyond first base until the sixth inning
when the Axemen loaded the bases on three walks and scratched across its sole
run on a ball misplayed by the Irish shortstop. Besaw also drove in a run on a
single in the second. The line for his complete game effort was 1 run, not
earned, on 3 hits, 4BB and 2 K’s.
The Irish scored one run with two out in the top of the second. With runners
at first and third the Irish attempted a steal of second and the Axemen failed
to execute defensively and allowed the run to score. In the top of the third
Corey Moran beat out an infield hit and stole second. With two out Alex Besaw
singled to center scoring the Irish’s second run. Then in a steal attempt by
Besaw the Axemen catcher threw through to centerfield and several Axemen
continued to bobble the ball while Besaw scampered all the way from first to
score the 3rd Irish run. Axeman starter Michael Ward buckled down in
the 4th and 5th retiring the Irish in order both
innings. He would leave however, after the 5th allowing 3 runs, on 3
hits with 6 K’s. Nate Wilson-Traisman pitched the 6th and 7th
allowing no hits, 1BB, one unearned run and recording 1 K. The Axemen recorded 3
hits, a double by Evan Brown and singles by Sam Holman and Aaron Pratt.

Axemen edge Pirates 4-3
The South Eugene Axemen moved to 2-0 in
league play with a 4-3 home opening win vs. Marshfield on Wednesday. After South
jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, Marshfield’s Jesse Mclintock held South in
check. Shane Rose’s sixth inning sacrifice fly tied the game at 3-3. In the
bottom of the sixth, South first baseman Aaron Pratt’s two out double scored
Ethan Trachtenberg from first with the deciding run. Junior Dan O’Brien
retired Marshfield in order in the seventh for his second consecutive complete
game win.
South was paced by Pratt’s two doubles and
two rbi’s and a key two out rbi from sophomore second baseman Evan Brown. South
continues to get clutch hitting and solid defense throughout their lineup.
Pratt’s play at first has been exceptional in the early going and South’s
outfield play was once again outstanding with key catches by Theo Seidmen in
right and Travis Rooke-Ley in center. Sophomore Rooke-Ley is establishing
himself as one of the league’s premier outfielders and a tough out in the
leadoff spot.
The Axemen will attempt to ride “Big Train”
Ward to a third straight league win in as they face either Corey Moran or Alex
Besaw and the Sheldon Irish on Friday at Civic Stadium.
Monday April 3rd League Opener
SEHS 5 NEHS 2 Revised 5:00 PM Tueday
Riding the complete game effort of Michael "Big Train" Ward, the South Eugene
Axemen defeated the North Eugene Highlanders 5-2 at Swede Stadium on Monday.
Ward scattered four hits and struck out eight in his 88 pitch complete game
effort. South continued to show a balanced offensive attack, paced by sophomore
center fielder Travis Rooke-Ley who was on base all four times and junior
catcher Ben Kiesse who drove in four of South’s five runs.
Lead-off man Rooke-Ley was 2-2, walked twice, scored three runs and added a
first inning circus catch in center field for good measure. Kiesse’s two out
single in the first scored Rooke-Ley staking South to an early lead. In the
fourth inning Kiesse provided the game’s big blow with a towering three run
homer. The stellar junior catcher gave South an insurmountable 5-0 lead, more
than enough for Ward. With several area scouts in attendance watching the South
Eugene senior pitch his last league game at Swede, Ward was as focused and
intense as this reporter has ever seen him. Not good news for Midwestern league
opponents.
South will throw Junior Dan O’Brien in their home opener against Marshfield
on Wednesday and come back with Ward on Friday, at home vs. Sheldon
Wednesday Mar 29th
South takes two at
Pleasant Hill
Sam Holman
went six for seven with a home run, leading South Eugene to a twin
bill sweep of Pleasant Hill
on Thursday. In the first game, sophomore Travis
Rooke-Ley pitched five solid innings leaving with a 4-0 lead
when the late afternoon thunderstorms came. After a 45 minute rain
delay, senior Nate Wilson-Traisman pitched
two innings for the save in South’s 4-2 win. The
Axeman continued their consistent hitting up and down their
lineup with run scoring singles by Dan O’Brien ,
Nate Wilson-Traisman, Ethan Trachtenberg
and Sam Holman.
In the second game, played in winter like conditions,
South prevailed 9-6, warmed by the hot bat
of Holman, withstanding two home runs by P Hill’s senior standout
Tyrell Poggemeyer. Sophomore Aaron Turk
gave a game effort, Ethan Trachtenberg
pitched an inning before giving way to Wilson-Traisman who pitched
another scoreless inning for his second save in as many games. The
game was called after six innings.
South Eugene concludes their pre-season with a five game win streak
heading into Monday’s opener at Swede vs. North
Eugene. Michael Ward will take the ball for South vs. John
Keller for North.
Wednesday Mar 29th
South Eugene 6 Siuslaw 3
Jack Carpenter's two out, two run, bases
loaded single was the big hit in South Eugene's 6-3 victory over Siuslaw
on Wednesday. Carpenter paced an 11 hit SEHS attack which saw
contributions up and down the lineup in support of Dan O'Brien's
six hit complete game. South combined timely hitting, agressive
baserunning and solid defense to remain undefeated at home. The Axemen
travel to Pleasant Hill for a Thursday 3/30 doubleheader.
Monday Mar 27th 2-3-1
South Eugene 4 Roosevelt 3
The South Eugene Axemen used some timely hitting to ride the
complete game, 10 K pitching of Michael Ward in a 4-3 home win over Roosevelt on
Monday. A lively crowd including many rival Midwestern league coaches and
players took advantage of the warm spring break day to take in the game at
Civic Stadium.
Ward, one of the top pitchers in the state showed his experience
and grit on a day when he didn’t have his best stuff. Senior shortstop
Nate Wilson-Traisman paced South’s offense with two triples in his first
two at bats, scoring both times on RBI singles by senior catch Aaron
Pratt. Junior Dan O’Brien made a fine running catch in deep right
field to end the game with the tying run at third base.
South will host Siuslaw on Wed. and travel to Pleasant Hill to play
two on Thursday.
WEDNESDAY March 22nd 1-3-1
South Eugene 3 Pleasant Hill 3
Tyrell Poggemeyer's fifth inning bases loaded
double erased a 3-0 South Eugene lead and forced a 3-3 tie in a game that
was called on account of darkness. The game will be replayed at a later
date.
MONDAY March 20th 1-3
South Eugene 4 Marist 1
Led by seniors Michael Ward and Nate Wilson-Traisman,
the South Eugene Axeman nailed down their first win of the season
Monday, defeating Marist 4-1 on a wet, slow Civic Stadium field.
After giving up late leads in two of their first
three losses, Wilson-Traisman pitched a flawless seventh inning to
support the six inning, seven strikeout effort of teammate Michael Ward
and secure South's home opening win. In addition, shortstop Wilson-Traisman
was 2-3 with a double, rbi, run scored and a walk. Designated hitter Ben
Kiesse continued his torrid early season hitting adding two hits.
South continues their five game homestand hosting
Pleasant Hill on Wednesday and Silverton on Friday of this week.
SATURDAY March 18th 0-3
North Medford 8 South Eugene 2
South Medford 7 South Eugene 1
Ben Kiesse collects 4 of Axemen's 10 hits on the
day, including a solo homer against North Medford. Starters O'Brien
and Rooke-Lay toss five and three scoreless innings respectively before
Medford schools roll.
WEDNESDAY 15th 0-1
Redmond 8 S Eugene 7
Sam Holman knocks a 2-run dinger for Axemen, but Lava Bears come from
behind in sixth to win.
