| WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?? During the greatest week in Columbus, Ohio; which comes only every two years, one would expect nothing but pre-game hype. Instead, we are inundated with this absurd campaign for fan civility. I am certainly not in favor of violence, and the Michigan fans have a right to come and support their team. But this campaign is not only needless, it is mindless. Add to that, the media playing and replaying Lloyd Carr's whining about his fear for his players safety. The safety he had better fear has a number 2 on his jersey, because if he doesn't figure out a way to block Mike Doss there very well could be casualties. Since when does the local media take their cue from Lloyd Carr of all people? Focus is what we need. Buckeye fans, this is the game where we become the true 12th man. This is the game when we cheer and will our guys to victory. When the media wasn't telling us to make nice with our neighbors to the north, they were constantly reminding us of past failures. I think we are all familiar with the number of times Michigan has spoiled our season. So what? Should we expect defeat? Is that what they want? With attitudes like that, Ben Franklin would have listened to his wife who told him to come in out of the storm, the Wright brothers would have stayed in the bicycle business. Winston Churchill would have surrendered because the Nazis seemed to have done really well in Europe. Have some emotional courage, and dare to believe in this team. You want a history lesson - I'll give you a history lesson. I remember a year when the Buckeyes had a perfect record. They needed only to beat Michigan to get a chance to play for the national championship. The team was talented, but many thought too young to achieve greatness. It was a Buckeye team which endured many close calls on their unbeaten run. They were playing a good, but not great Michigan team. The game was in Columbus. The year 1968, our last national championship. The final score: Ohio State 50 - Michigan 14. How do you like that history! The following ode (to the tune of Santa Claus is Coming to Town) is dedicated to the ridiculous campaign, orchestrated by university president Karen Holbrook, to get our fans to behave this weekend. OK, everybody sing with me: Oh you better watch out, You better not shout, The wolverines are coming to town, They don't want you to be drinkin Be careful of what you're thinkin, The wolverines are coming to town, You better not swear, Check your underwear, Karen Holbrook has list, and she checkin it twice She's gonna find out who's been rowdy or nice So, you better show class, No bare'in your ass, Don't you dare boo, Be nice to the Blue, The wolverines are comin to town. ENOUGH OF THIS STUFF, WE NEED GAMES FACES, PEOPLE!!! |
