For three weeks I could not distinguish the glow of all the holiday lights from the glow in my heart from the 37-21 butt kicking dealt the forces of evil from the state up north.  Now the hero of that wonderful upset has to go and so something semi-stupid enough to get himself suspended for the Alamo Bowl.  Even through my scarlet and gray glasses, I can see that we are becoming a joke.  This stuff really needs to end and do so in a big hurry.  I have the utmost trust in the integrity of Andy Geiger and Jim Tressel, but this is ridiculous.  I have long defended Tress because, unlike his predecessor, when transgressions occur there has been punishment.  Still our young men do not seem to be getting the message.  We do not want to let Karen Holbrook get involved in this and hire Dr. Phil as out next coach.  Still it was a beautiful game.  37-21.

That beep-beep sound you hear is the sound of the big blue bus backing all the way to Pasadena.  The next sound will be whatever sound a weasel makes when it is getting gored by Bevo, the Texas Longhorn.  Texas only lost one game, a close one to OU and Mack Brown lobbied long and hard to get the Rose Bowl invitation.  I think they’ll make the most of it and confirm the fact that the weasels, just are not all that good. The Rose Bowl does provide a match up of the two coaches who arguably do less with more talent than anyone in the country.

An even more interesting match up is the lame duck or Fiesta Bowl. Pitt, who had no business being in New Year’s Day bowl game let alone a BSC bowl takes on the party-crashing Utah.  Urban Meyer, before leaving for Notr……ooops for Florida, leads the first school for a non-BCS conference into a BCS bowl.  Pitt’s coach Walt Harris was about to get fired, before the Panthers went on a strange run to win the gutted Big East championship.  At this point Pitt couldn’t fire Harris, so the former Buckeye QB coach did the honorable thing and left to fill the Stanford vacancy.   The lame duck coaches cancel each other and the utes win big.

The Sugar Bowl features the jilted Auburn Tigers-war Eagles, and a red-hot Virginia Tech team.  Auburn wants to prove they should be in Miami and should win handily.  However, if the Hokies hang around until the 4th quarter, I like their chances of making the BSC look good.

The Orange Bowl should be a great match-up of ultra talented teams.  No one can match the talent of USC, but I like the Sooners to win this.  First I like Stoops over Petey.

Second, I think USC has looked soft several times.  UCLA almost beat them.  A bad Notre Dame team outplayed them for a half  and Cal should have beaten them.  The Trojans will make enough big plays to make this a great game, but the Sooners won’t back down and will win a close one.

To say we are watching a coaching merry go round is a disservice to wooden horses.
