USS CHICAGO CG-11 final days as a ship mostly intact in San Pedro. The outcome we all know.

These are all of the final pictures I could find so far of the ships final days as she sat in San Pedro awaiting her final outcome. A ship that is missed by all who served on her. As you can see much of the ship was still as we remembered her, Missile Launchers, and other weaponry already gone, only the 5 inch 38's remained to the last. Even one of the ships Cincpac insignia's survived to the final days on the side of the massive bridge structure near where the captains cabin was located. You can still make out some of the "E" award on the forward stack as well. But now only one of the Anchors is all that is left of what was once the worlds greatest guided missile cruiser. The anchor sits on display in Rock Island Arsenal, You can see a picture of it in the Tall Tales section of this website..
This will take you Back to the Photo Gallery.
