As i sit here at the computer and look at the hand out about the basic archetypes, i beagn to think that there are no new stories. In class we have talked about Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and other stories that have this archetypal situations. They contain things like the hero, the devil figure, and women archetypes. Of course from other classes i have taken, they have used these same examples but have not expanded from these specific stories. I guess with the same examples being used i never really took a look at other examples to see if what my teachers were saying was true. Well as i look at the hand put i have come to the conclusion that there are no new stories. All the movies and all the books that i have read fit in one way or another with the typical archetypes. This Blows my mind that i have not caught on to this before. How have these archetypes kept me entertained for all these years and not seemed repetative. That is a good question, i'm not sure i will have to come back to it.

I have come to a conclusion for why i have not noticed the archetypes before. See, archetypes are kind of like a cheap phychic that you call at one in the moring. They will answer your questions with the most general explinations that they can. This leaves room for you to make a connection to something that she has told you. The arcgetypes are the same way. They are very basic in nature an leave room for you to plug any character you want in there. It is like saying i am going to tell you a story of a man ....... It could be anything. I think this is why we have trouble narrowing down the woman archetype. First of all there are four major catagoies to make sure that we don't miss anything. Dr. Sexson said woman are more complicated and he is right. Thats why you need four archetypes. I would like to see one archetype that explained all women but thats not going to happen. So i guess what i am trying to say is, How serious should i take thes archetypes. What really can be learned, i'm just not sure.
