This WebQuest project is an internet-based lesson on the relationship between temperature and latitude and temperature and elevation.  I think the project is quite good for both science and math students, and with a bit more effort can be made into an excellent lesson.  It promotes the use of a variety of higher level thinking skills, as these relationships are not always readily apparent.  The lesson also requires the use of several different types of computer programs.

 I included this assignment in my portfolio because I thought it was a good example of science instruction being enriched by the use of technology.  Since the WebQuest is a lesson, I think it is entirely appropriate for use in an 8th grade classroom.  This would be an excellent project for  students who are scholastically ahead of the rest of the class.  They can participate in this enriching activity on their own while the teacher is busy working with the rest of the class.
