Vellum Weave Card

This woven vellum card is a mixture of techniques, including creating a Marvy Metallics background, weaving and embossing. It's a fairly easy card to make, but it's not a fast project!

How To

  1. Create the Marvy Metallics backround paper. Shake Marvy Metallics pens and quickly dot and blob different colors of inks around the black glossy cardstock. Spray with fine mist of water and swirl cardstock to blend. You can also use a damp paper towel or scrunched up plastic wrap to blend. Let dry completely.
  2. Prepare vellum and background. Using a craft knife and ruler, make straight, even cuts across vellum, leaving a small border that's uncut. You'll end up with strips of vellum hanging off of one, connected edge. Cut your background Metallics cardstock to the same width as the vellum, but cut all the way through and make strips.
  3. Weave the Marvy Metallics strips through the vellum, using a "basket weave" pattern. As you add each row of strips, make sure the previous row is tight up against the prior row. WHen you each the end, tape around the edge or glue the vellum on the wrong side to the Metallic strip.
  4. Fold your purple cardstock in half so you have a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" card. Open the card back up and stamp and emboss the heart frame onto the front of the card. Emboss one heart on a piece of scrap cardstock. Cut out the center of the frame on the card and cut around the heart on the scrap.
  5. If necessary, cut down the vellum smaller than the card but larger than the opening in the frame. Make sure any stray edges are taped or glued. Tape the -vellum weave behind the opening of the frame. Tape the 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" piece of purple cardstock behind the vellum weave to cover the back side of the weave and to give the inside of the card a finished appearance. Tape or glue the heart cut-out to the center of the vellum weave at the front of the card. Enjoy!
