Stamped Tile Coasters
These tumbled stone tiles make wonderful stamped coasters. I have used both the faux marble tumbled stone and the rough stone tiles for these projects. Each type of tile has unique qualities, but work equally well. Use these tiles as coasters, glued to a serving tray, or even as part of a mosaic.
Materials
- 4 x 4 Tumbled stone tile (available in hardware and flooring stores)
- Rubber stamps
- Heat-set pigment ink pads (Crafters, Fabrico, Brilliance, etc.)
- Solvent-based or archival ink pads (Memories, Staz-On, etc.)
- Heat gun
- Blender pen
- Make-up sponges
- Matte spray finish
- Cork
- Double-stick adhesive (Xyron, sheets of double-stick tape) or tacky glue
How To
- Clean tile with water. Let dry completely.
- Ink stamp with either heat-set or archival ink and stamp as desired. Heat set with heat gun.
- Sponge on colors of heat-set or archival inks to accent tile. Heat set with heat gun.
- Use blender pen to strengthen colors by picking up color from ink pad and coloring various images on the tileor to repair any light images that may not have stamped well. Heat set.
- When satisfied with stamped tile, finish by sealing with matte spray finish. Let dry and spray one to two more coats.
- Adhere cork to the bottom of the tile using a sheet of double-stick tape, a Xyron machine, or using tacky glue.
