We got a phone call from Angela at the Vanderberg Humane Society about an owner surrendered Sheltie. We had picked up 2 adorable boys named Bert & Ernie several months before. Angela said that she was tiny & definitely a Sheltie. We drove to Evansville, Indiana the following Saturday to pick her up.
What a gorgeous little blondie! 12 inches tall & just 10 pounds. Paula immediately fell in love. She held her the entire trip home. We got her home & settled in. Then it was a trip to the vet for a check up & teeth cleaning. She lost about a dozen teeth. Poor Penny, snaggletoothed Sheltie.
Penny fit in perfectly at the Bare's Den. Very tiny & playful. She puts Prince in his place. Yep, all 10 pounds would bite him on his legs. She has a thousand cute poses. Here's one in the roasting pan.
Penny was in the final stages of kidney failure. Despite the efforts of our vet to save her, she passed away on Feburary 29, 2004. She will be in our hearts forever.

We keep in touch with Penny's mom, Billie, who is in a nursing home in Evansville. She was very thankful to us for taking care of Penny "In time we will meet again at the Bridge"
