THIRTY-DAY INDIVIDUALLY GUIDED RETREATS
The full Spiritual
Exercises of St. Ignatius are offered once a year, although
individuals may arrange with a resident guide for a different
time of the year. The purpose of these Exercises is deepen
ones relationship to God, and to thus discover what God
wills for one in choosing and living a state of life. One learns
ways of understanding inner experiences which influence one in
relationships and major and minor decisions. During this retreat,
the retreatant spends four to five hours in mental prayer every
day. The observance of strict silence enables the person to enter into
reflection, meditation & contemplation. Each retreatant is
personally helped by a trained guide through daily interviews.
The retreatant shares the prayer experiences, and the guide helps
him/her discern the action of the Holy Spirit. Discernment is the
key to the process of growth in union with God and in the
spiritual life. The guide offers suggestions for the next day of
prayer. This form of retreat helps those more experienced in the
life of prayer.
This month-long
intense experience demands good health, emotional maturity and
commitment to a life of prayer and self-control. It is related to
the spiritual readiness and inner need of the individual
rather than to jubilees, profession of vows, and the like.
Applicants should have experienced two or more eight-day
individually guided retreats. These requirements must be verified
in writing by the Major Superior and the regular spiritual
director. Please write for further information about dates and
costs.
