Having A Battle Plan Is Key,  Always Be Informed Before You Enter A Battle.
The LAG SHOT
MISSILE AVOIDANCE: Speed is life in an engagement that allows missiles. If you can top 89 Kph, you can avoid most missile attacks by running in a ever tightening circular pattern to the enemy firing at you. Use MASC to increase the running speed of your mech by somewhere between 20% and 25% depending on the weight and power plant of your chosen model. Stay torso twisted so the enemy remains in target. The missiles will look like they are going to hit you, but in actuality will just miss to your rear. Don't panic "use the force Luke" and they will miss most often. If you need to jump, make sure it is forward and not just up as this slows your forward speed enough for the missiles to hit. AMS works exceptionally well to dispatch incoming rounds. And ECM does a fine job at making it harder for the enemy to get a "Lock" on you. Also, LRM attacks at close range (i.e. less than 75 meters) do relatively little damage save some splash. It may however, create a crater which may trip you up and cause you to fall thus allowing the enemy to pull back and get a lock that will rock your world. Try practicing this with a friend.

WEAPON FIRE PATTERN: People often ask how do you knock them big mechs right to the ground with just 2 UAC 20's. The answer is good lag shooting coupled with 2 low centered side by side UAC 20 bursts in a narrow concentrated pattern right from under the nose of my Madcat. This is by no way a twist of fate or luck. If I hit, the adversary takes the full brunt of the attack no if ands buts ors about it. If you place 8 ER Small lasers in the left torso of a Madcat and go check it. Every odd numbered weapon will fire from the top and the even ones will fire from below. Go back to the Lab. Take all the odd (i.e.1,3,5,7) ones off of the left side. Now insert Case as a place holder. Then reinstall the 4 ERSL you removed. Save the mech and go check it again. Now the first 4 will fire low from the center, the next high then low then high again. What happened is that the 3 you originally left were the even ones that fired low. The next 4 you replaced switched to the odd numbered ones firing low and the even ones high. Of those last 4, remove the even numbered (i.e.2,4) ones and the case. Replace the case as a place holder. Reinstall those two. Save it and go check again. One of those last two will fire high. Remember which one it is, go back to the lab, pull it and the Case, replace the case, replace the weapon, save it and go check it again. It should be the last weapon in the chain and should fire low. If it doesn't, go back to the lab, pull the weapon, pull the case, replace the weapon, then replace the case, save it and go see. They will all eventually fire from a low left center narrow position. Now do the same on the right side. Now you have 16 ER Small Lasers firing into one concentrated area. If you make a mech with weapons in the center torso, place these weapons first as they won't change. Now you are free to configure your mech to fire from either high or low torso locations. Imagine the possibilities. Of course each mech has it's own certain particularities so experiment with the different patterns, weapons grouping configurations and related heat management techniques.

APPROACH:  The way in which you approach your enemy will determine whether or not you will emerge victorious.  With Lag it is however to get in close enough to do some real damage, there are however pilots out there that are able to gun you down the second you come into range.  Nonetheless, if you approach any plots straight on you are asking to be shot.  Also if you stand still you are a zero lag and your opponent will more then happily dispose of you.  So to use the lag to your advantage, and reduce the chance of your opponent nailing you, try a zig zag pattern as you approach.  If you use this tactic while you constantly change your speed you may be able to dodge the enemies fire long enough for you to get a few shots off.  A good skill to learn is to torso twist while turning your mech so that your reticule stays on the point where you wish to shoot.  If you do then your opponent will have to keep moving making it harder for him to find your lag point and deliver a blow that will rock your world.  So basically keep moving and keep changing direction.  This way you can land shots and be able to crush all who oppose you.
