HEAT MANAGEMENT:
If a mech blows up or shuts down from heat related weapon configuration and/or grouping problem, it is absolutely useless on the battlefield. Please design your mechs in advance and test them on the actual maps we play to be certain it won't tear itself apart when you fire. Or maybe you enjoy looking like a fool in actual battle standing there blowing up each time you pull the trigger. See below on how to solo test your mechs for heat management on the maps we play. I believe it is impossible to group fire 5 PPC's or 6 ER Large Lasers no matter how many heat sinks you install. It just overloads the power plant causing the reactor to go critical and your subsequent death. Now link firing them is another story. There is no problem link firing such configurations and is a highly recommended configuration in certain applications. It is also not considered dishonorable by IMP to use the group fire technique as a means of self-destructing thus robbing the enemy of a potential kill. It is always better for us to go one down as opposed to the enemy going one up as far as the number of kills goes.
INTELLIGENCE:
If we drop to engage the enemy and you don't have the map, you can't play. It's that simple, you get the boot and end up feeling like an idiot. Please prepare yourself adequately in advance by having all the maps downloaded and installed correctly. Drop in with someone who has all the maps and let them go through them with you. IMP will always try to provide it's personnel with the latest greatest up to date intelligence information concering maps.
EXPORTING MECHS:
When you are in Mech Lab you may export mech configurations to a file that you can transfer to your friends and commrades through a messenger service (i.e.ICQ) that allows such magic or simply through attachments to Email messages. To export a mech: 1) go into Mech Lab 2) select the model (i.e, Bushwacker) you wish to export 3) select the variant (i.e. C5 UA ICE) you wish 4) press "Ctrl x" 5) navigate to the file location you wish to save to 6) select save and it is done 7) if by chance "Ctrl x" doesn't seem to work on the mech you are selecting, try changing the name as this feature has a problem with certain keyboard (i.e./) characters in the file name.
IMPORTING MECHS:
When you are in the Mech Lab you may import different mech configurations from the C:\Micropose\Mechwarrior3 directory. You CAN import them from other locations but doing so will result in the famous checker board pattern. You can import mechs from downloads from a internet site or page, file transfers through a messenger service (i.e.ICQ) and simply through attachments to Email messages. So to import a mech: 1) save the mech file to C:\Micropose\Mechwarrior3 2) go into Mech Lab 3) select the model (i.e. Bushwacker) you wish to import 4) press "Ctrl i" 5) navigate to C:\Micropose\Mechwarrior3 6) select the variant you wish to import 7) click done because you are 8) if by chance you import a bushwacker to the Madcat file directory, it will place the Bushwacker at the bottom of the list and you will not be able to access it. So make sure you put it where it belongs.
SOLO MAP TESTING:
Everyone wants to know why they can't play the maps as they have been edited and downloaded on their computer by themselves... well, you can. Unfortunately you won't have an enemy to kill and you must bail to try another map. But none the less, you can use the actual map you will play in the zone to test for say... Heat Management. Get a connection to the internet happening. Now start MechWarrior 3 like your going to play the computer. When you are in the main page of the You Vs. Computer mode, instead of clicking on "Instant Action", select "Multiplayer Mode". Now in the upper right hand side of the page there is a connection selector box. Scroll to modem connection and select it by placing an X next to it. Then click on "Answer Call" down towards the bottom of the page. Don't select "Dial" as you already have a connection going on with your modem. Now your hosting a game by yourself. Pick the map, lock options, select the mech configuration you wish to test from the mech lab, click ready and finally select start. Now remember, you will eventually have to bail (by pressing the "Esc" key) all the way back to the main area. But at least you can now test the maps with the mechs you design.
TOGGLE MECHWARRIOR/WINDOWS:
By pressing "Alt Tab", you are able to toggle between Windows and MechWarrior 3. No further explaination should be necessary as to the usefulness of this command. |
