THE MEN'S SHED

Willing Workers Make Wheelies

A unique project now underway in Taree is providing new hope and joy to children in overseas countries who have become victims to land mines or accidents, or crippling diseases such as polio. A group of local men is using parts from unwanted old bicycles - and their own skills - to help others less fortunate by assembling sturdy and practical wheelchairs.

The old bikes are dismantled and the rear frames and top bars kept, sanded down and painted in bright colours ready to be attached to the other main components of special wheels and plastic chair seats.

These simple but sturdy wheelchairs give young victims in Cambodia, Laos, Afghanistan and Angola new mobility and a fresh chance at life.

If you would like to help us support this worthy cause, we would be happy to arrange collection of any old or unused bicycles for the men to convert. Just send us an email and we will be happy to provide more details.
