1. To build leadership and involvement within our civic association
2. To streamline dues collection process (Marianne has volunteered to work with Dean Norton to do this.)
3. To keep association members quickly apprised of new events and developments via its website.
It was also suggested that a social event for association members be considered at the next meeting. Since Anita Pollard was so effective with hospitality, it was recommended that she be asked to continue with this function if her health permits. The president was asked to send thank you letters to:
Andy Somerville - for working with the community and for getting the deteriorated portion of Central Avenue repaved.
Larry Ichter - for the sidewalk on Old Mount Vernon Road from Adrienne to Mount Vernon Highway.
The Islamic Saudi Academy - for their being responsive to their neighbors.
Jade Development - for the sidewalk connecting to Woodley Hills E.S.
Rose agreed to compose and send the letters to those indicated above.
It was agreed that Rose would prepare the newsletter and would work with Charlie Becherer, Director on the distribution process so that a chain of block captains could be developed to assure delivery to all households.
There was also discussion about providing more notice so that members could better schedule their attendance at the meetings. Roy Van Slyke will attend to updating and posting signs the week before the meeting. Rose would schedule four membership meetings between September 2000 and June 2001 with Board Meetings in between. Once determined, these would be posted on the website.
A suggestion was made that subscription information for the Weekly Agenda published by Fairfax County's Public Affairs Department be made available.
This is free to all residents of Fairfax County upon request simply by calling 703-324-3185.
In addition, the Fairfax County Citizen's Handbook, currently undergoing some revisions, is available on the county's website: www.co.fairfax.va.us
This is a very helpful guide in assisting citizens in search of county
services and details about zoning laws, policies, etc. As soon as hard copy becomes available, we will post this on our website.
The meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
