Mount Vernon Farms Civic Association Meeting

 

Meeting called to order by Rose Lambert on Tuesday, November 27, 2000 at 7:15 p.m. at Woodley Hills Elementary School - 8718 Old Mount Vernon Road.

Copies of Minutes from previous meeting were made available. Chair entertained a motion to dispense with the reading of the minutes. This motion was seconded and carried.

Treasurer's Report -

$470.59 at First Union

Deposit 11/7 +200 dues

$ 24.00 to reimburse M. Newman for P.O. Box Bill

The president pointed out that MVFCA Director, Eunice Theobalds, was in the Mt Vernon Gazette as Notable Neighbor recently and distributed copies of the article to association members.

Cher Terry agreed to serve as Hospitality Coordinator and Rose thanked her for providing the evening's cookies and cider.

Old Business - From last meeting

Colonial Ave - County staff Pam Cerino - Drainage issues bamboo problems. County staff held on on-site meeting and determined that developer (JADE) must install a swale. Paving colonial VDOT bonding issue. Repaving should occur Spring 2001.

Rose reported that Rent-a Wreck was denied at both Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors' meetings. Landmark Communities' application for zero lot lines homes at the corner of Radford/Richmond Highway on the Almost A Bank property was approved by Board of Supervisors. The project has been

named: Mount Zephyr Commons.

Central Avenue Park Sign replaced

Future farmer's site - old house was demolished.

Location of the Mt Vernon Post Office will not be in the same place. Definite location not yet determined at this date.

Guest Speaker: Supervisor Gerry Hyland provided an overview of what was occurring in the Mt Vernon District and covered the following topics: Q&A discussion

South County Center November 28th Ground Breaking 11/28/00. The 5000 sq. feet of unallocated space was to be utilized for "office hoteling" where FFAX agencies take turns at using office space in the building. The permitting office, site review staff and others might qualify for this use.

Also, there will be an electronic government center on the main lobby to provide computer to access government services. Supervisor Hyland pointed out that Landmark Communities specifically stated that they would not have considered building on Radford/Route One if it were not for the South

County Government Center.

The County is attempting to locate an Animal Shelter on Richmond Hwy. $500,000 has been set aside in the Capital Improvement Program for this purpose. On suggestion was the North Hill site - Woodly nightingale mobile home park end of Lockheed but Supervisor is waiting to hear back from community.

Route One Transportation Study will be entering centerline study phase to

determine where the centerline of Richmond Highway will be. Mount Vernon's

14th Annual Town Meeting will be held 1/27/00 8: 00 am- 1:00 PM in the Mt

Vernon High School Little

Theatre.

Inova Hospital Assisted Living being built on hospital grounds. Zoning

office has a new email address: [email protected]

Question/Answer period began. Centerline study explained in depth.

Questions raised about the Fairfax County Community Improvement program and

the problems being experienced in Mount Vernon Hills. Drainage, road, curb

and gutter improvements are needed in older neighborhoods. The Board must

find a way to fund the construction projects and it will require a bond

referendum for the projects to move forward. It was recommended that people

go to board meetings and speak out at the budget hearings.

Rose informed the members that she brought the issue to the Mt Vernon

Council and a Resolution was being prepared for distribution to the Board of

Supervisors. Suzanne Sothiros - has not returned names of other communities

on the Com. Imp. List to Rose.

State and County spot improvements programs to replace bump in road children

playing sign not through street.

Questions concerning mosquito program and spay to be used would be answered

directly to Pam Serino by Rose.
