Editorial

                        Malankara Catholic Church, Delhi Mission, i.e., a Church that encompasses Delhi, Haryana,  and Uttar Pradesh , is very much privileged to hold the 5th National Convention of the Malankara Catholic Youth Movement (MYCM) in the Extra Territorial Regions in India from 13, 14 & 15, November, 2001at Mar Ivanios Nagar, Delhi. It provides, no doubt, an ample  opportunity to the Church in the Delhi Mission to take the stock, to analyze and evaluate her very being, to correct and rectify herself, to rejuvenate her with a new vision upon her very mission, all the more, to equip herself to disseminate her responsibilities most fruitfully and effectively where she has to be.
On the occasion of this important convention Malankara Voice comes out to you with this  Special Issue. There may not be much special, but it is, definitely,  an unadorned  attempt to  draw the true  picture of the  Church in the Delhi Mission. We have achieved  enormous growth and do, still, our best to get our church well established here in the Delhi Mission. Our  sincerity,  incorruptible  love towards the Church, willingness to bear the responsibilities, readiness to cooperate  and prayer with deep faith have enabled us to  achieve this tremendous growth. But, we do not forget the fact that unwelcome and untoward attitude and actions have raised hurdles in the path of church. Sincere thanks to all the Malankarites for their all kinds of cooperation.

                                Malankara Voice, though it is very small and without much colors, as the mouth- piece of the Malankarites in the Delhi Mission still does its mission very effectively . It  links all the members of the community together, fulfilling a historic role. Definitely, it is very appropriate that this special issue is coming out as a souvenir on the occasion of this important   event.  Sincere  thanks to all who worked hard for the growth of the Malankara Church in the Delhi mission and for  'Malankara Voice'.  Unity is our Strength ! Cooperation is our Success! Spirit of Sacrifice is our Blessing!

MESSAGE

                        I am pleased to be informed of the publication of a special edition of the Malankara Voice on the occasion of the Bahya Kerala MCYM convention to be held from 13th to 15th of November 2001. Information is power. To control information is to control power. Malankara Voice is strong enough to share information among the Malankarites in and around New Delhi. Thereby it has become truly the “voice” of the Malankara people of New Delhi unifying them and empowering them to become what they are.

On this occasion I extend my good wishes to the organizers and the editorial board of the Malankara Voice, assuring them of my prayerful support. I encourage all involved to continue to promote programs aimed at establishing Christian values in our families, accelerating our works of ecumenism at all levels, and deepening our understanding of the meaning and sacred character of human life from conception till death. I also congratulate all members of our Malankara Catholic Missions in Delhi for their tireless and selfless efforts in building up our communities. It is also my delight to appreciate the great leadership and pastoral care given by our priests, Fr. Cherian Mambrakuzhy, Fr. Varghese Madathikunnath and Fr. Jolly Karimpil. I wish God’s blessings and all success to the Youth Convention and all endeavors you undertake to spread the Good News of our Lord, establishing our communities in New Delhi. As the new millennium commenced with new challenges, we are passing through very difficult and critical period of time. May the Lord strengthen our young people to be the beacon of peace and source of transformation of our society!

                                When I look behind the years through which the Delhi Mission of the Malankara Catholic Church has gone, I have nothing but to praise the sheer mercy of the Lord and His all encompassing care for His little flock.  As with the case of any big movement, the Delhi Mission has begun on a very humble note; but today it has grown big enough to make its presence as a vibrant apostolic church felt among the various communities in Delhi.  Perhaps no mission of the Malankara Catholic Church in India had to undergo so much perils and trials as that of this mission in the capital city and around.  In most missions in India our priests and faithful have encountered more or less friendly and benevolent with local hierarchies.  They were rather understanding and sympathetic towards our mission’s undertakings.  That is why many of the missions have been awarded the status as “Personal Parishes”.

As one of the first priests in this area the author can narrate the many difficulties faced in the beginning of this mission in Delhi.   But I do not think this sharing will help in any way to build up our community as a Church.  Hence I turn my attention to something positive.  Though there were hardships, I maintained always very good relationship with the priests of the Archdiocese of Delhi.  I used to go out of my way to help them out in any pastoral need.  This was one of the reasons why I received so much support from the clergy and I am happy to place on record that the priests who have come after me have maintained this presbyteral koinonia and I congratulate them sincerely.  This has contributed very much to a positive appreciation of our ecclesial presence in the Archdiocese.

The Second Vatican Council and the Popes and the Magisterium have always maintained the view that the treasures of the Oriental Churches have to be protected and promoted.  Indeed it is the right of every one who calls himself catholic to give due respect to this vision of the Church.  The Church is catholic because it is a communion of various sui iuris or autonomous churches.  Each church is autonomous and it has to collaborate with other autonomous churches in the area to profess and maintain catholicity. We are familiar with the saying – unity is not uniformity; catholicity never stands in the way of diversity.  On the contrary there is unity because there is diversity and there is catholicity because everything is not uniform.  God made man and woman different, He made things different and He saw them beautiful. The Catholic Church has to proclaim this mind of the Creator! It was this that the venerable fathers of the Second Vatican Council upheld.

Hence to be different, in the proper sense is divine right; nobody can and should alter this sphere.  The desire of the people to have freedom to organize themselves as faithful of an autonomous church is only legitimate and is recognized by the Supreme Pontiff. This desire to be faithful to one’s own tradition and ecclesial life cannot and should not be seen a divisive move to foil the unity of the church.  On the contrary the life and activity of the Malankara Catholic Church in Delhi will only substantiate the point that the Church in Delhi has become more vibrant and beautiful because of the life and presence of the Malankara Church.  This community has been in the forefront of the Archdiocese and has always remained as an exemplary community.  It is not breaking away, but building up in freedom and Christian charity.

Rights in the Church are granted by God and never by the authorities.  The authorities only recognize the rights and create an atmosphere to have the rights exercised. The right of a faithful is the obligation of another faithful, be it a hierarchy or layman.  In the political life of today, rights are often granted by pressure and very seldom on the basis of justice.  Even the least (indeed there is none like that) in the Church has right, because he is part of the people of God.  Church has to be a model of just relationship. None should feel that he is denied of his right.

The Malankara Church in Delhi has its presence since 1978.  One has to appreciate the hard work and dedication of the pioneers of this movement in Delhi. His Grace Archbishop Benedict Mar Gregorios has always supported the faithful and the movement flourished due to his paternal care and concern.  I gratefully acknowledge the leadership and sacrifices of so many of our lay leaders.  Mr. V. P. Thomas and many others with him contributed to the growth of the mission.  The growth behind this mission in Delhi is principally due to the leadership and support (both spiritual and financial) of the Bishops of the Diocese of Tiruvalla, especially His Excellency Isaac Mar Youhanon and very particularly the present bishop His Excellency Geevarghese Mar Timotheos.  The bishops have sent priests to the various centers and they served the mission so faithfully and skillfully.

The priests have always concentrated on building up the community.  The area of work extends today over a vast region, namely, the whole of Delhi State and the industrial cities of Faridabad, Noida and Gazhiabad.  Three priests are presently engaged in the pastoral ministry.  The school, which was begun by Rev. Dr. Stephen Thottathil, was entrusted to the Bethany sisters.  The vision and love for the mission in Delhi forced H.E. Mar Timotheos to take initiative to purchase the present Flat in Vasantkunj, another one in Faridabad and a beautiful plot of land near the Delhi airport. He then purchased a plot of land in Faridabad and built a beautiful church.  In West Delhi a similar plot was purchased and the construction of church with residence is nearing completion. The prayer center in Dilshad Garden is going to be blessed on 18th November. In Faridabad another plot  of land near our school was also purchased.  All these involved great financial commitments from the part of the diocese.  The diocese has always supported the mission of Delhi.  I also admit with joy the sacrifices of our people in this region, especially in purchasing and building up the centres.

The mission in Delhi is very vibrant.  Our strength is our people who are so good and ecclesial minded. They are very understanding and accommodative. They are very active and cooperative in the manifold activities of the Church. They are very appreciative of the services and sacrifices of the priests serving them.  They have a very special love and affection for the diocese of Tiruvalla, especially the bishops and priests and sisters.  Through the regular prayer meetings, Holy Masses in the various centres, family get-togethers, Sardana Pilgrimage and other activities the mission has become very active and vibrant.  The presence of the Reverend sisters has added substantially to the growth of the mission.  The youth have also shown their active interest and involvement.  Baldeep has really attracted the attention of the children and parents alike and the full credit goes to our Kochachan, Rev. Fr. Jolly Karimpil.   I am pleased to see that our young generation is growing up in real enthusiasm and passion for our Church and its heritage.  It is very encouraging to see that the young are coming together and sharing their hopes and aspirations.  They feel belonging to one another.  I believe that this would deepen their roots and would help them appreciate the culture and heritage of their parents.  What we have is our past.  We should be rightly proud of it and shall contribute to its organic growth and development.

I tried to go through some of the important aspects in the life and growth of the Church in Delhi.  In spite of the many hardships it has grown into one of the best missions in India for the Malankara Catholic Church.  May the good Lord continue to bless us.

                                    "Ten-thousand-mile journey starts with the first step". The Almighty, together with a few members of our community, made me instrumental in the formation of the Delhi Malankara Catholic Association (DMCA) in the year 1978. We had many odds to face, various difficulties to surmount, comforts to sacrifice and privileges to lose during those years. But, when I see the growth we have achieved, I feel content that our sacrifices and difficulties did not go in vain. In the given social, historical and ecclesiastical set up in Delhi, the growth that we have achieved is praiseworthy. But for the hard work and sacrifices of many Malankarites in Delhi, and the devoted work of our sisters and priests, we could not have achieved so much. On behalf of our community, I salute them all from the core of my heart. The co-operation of the Arch-diocese of Delhi and the encouragement and supports from the Malankara hierarchy, especially from Mar Timotheos Metropolitan, which deserve special mention. As a person who knows the heart-beating and sufferings of our people in Delhi Mission, Bishop Thomas Mar Koorilos’ assistance and guidance keep us on the track towards achieving our goals. It will be ingratitude if I do not remember Isaac Mar Youhanon Metropolitan, Benedict Mar Gregorios Metropolitan, Lawrence Mar Ephrem Metropolitan of venerable memories for their great interest in the cause of Malankarites in Delhi. Our contentment should not lead us to complacency.

MALANKARA CATHOLIC CHURCH, DELHI - MISSION & VISION

                                  The Reunion of His Grace Late Mar Ivanios to the Universal Catholic Church is indeed a landmark in the history of Indian Christianity. The growth of our Church over the course of 71 years had been phenominal. Everytime when I think of the great event of Reunion movement and its five charter members, the picture that strikes my mind is the miracle by Jesus where he feeds more than 5000 people with five loaves (Mk. 6/38).

As we know, the Church is a visible community of the people of God, the mystical body of Jesus in which the salvific action of Jesus continues. Briefly speaking, the Church is the continuation of the mission of Jesus Christ.

For the convenience of understanding the mission of the Malankara Catholic Church in a broader and better perspective, we can group it in to four main categories.

1. Evangelical mission - It assumes greater importance, entrusting every member of the Church the responsibility and obligation to reach out the Gospel message to everyone irrespective of one's status or position. Go to the world and proclaim the Good News to the whole creation (Mt. 16/15). These words of our Lord is a wake up call to everyone especially in the present world scenario where the entire humanity is passing through the crisis of experiencing the brunt of terrorism, war and bloodshed. The brutal murder of innocent people, cruelties and injustice inflicted on the meek and the poor, oppression and maltreatment done to women and children all over the world, had become a common thing in life. At this crucial juncture, Our Lord's message of Universal love, compassion, brotherhood, and peace assumes more relevance. I do firmly believe, that we the Malankarites as a chosen community can bear witness to our Lord's message of Love and Universal brotherhood to the world. Let our doors remain opened, and let us act as good catalyst to absorb and lead to all those people seeking the real way, the truth, and the life. But the million dollar question is how many of us take up this challenge seriously? Are we prepared to bear witness to our Lord?

In Delhi our Evangelical mission assumes more importance. We are living in a place where the majority are yet to hear the Good news of salvation. Let us live as true Christians as St. John puts it, "If someone says he loves God but hates his fellowmen, he is a liar, for he cannot love God whom he has not seen, if he does not love his fellowmen, whom he has seen." The command that Jesus has given is this, "Whoever loves God must love his fellowmen also" (Jn 4/20-21). Therefore let us re-dedicate ourselves to live as true Christians to bear witness to others.

2. Pastoral Mission - The pastoral mission of the Malankara Catholic Church has got two main dimensions:
a. Administering the sacraments and other liturgical services in our own traditional way.
b. To educate and creating and awareness among our people to develop a better understanding of the true values and ethics of life.
Through the administering of holy sacraments, in the traditional Malankara liturgy we not only receive the spiritual nourishment in our day to day life but also keep our faith and identity in tact. The Malankarites wherever they are, insist on the traditional liturgy and identity to follow.
Our children who are born and brought up in Delhi, have to be trained in such a way that they should take keen interest in our Liturgy and tradition. They are the future strength of our Church. Therefore the parents have the very important responsibility to train them in our tradition by sending them in Catechism classes and other forums. Let our children be trained in actively taking part in Holy Mass and other liturgical services. The newly formed association for children, `Baldeep' is a humble beginning in this direction. For the youth, seminars, study classes, debates, Bible classes etc. have to be regularly conducted. Frequent prayer meetings, regular evening prayers in every family will definitely foster our younger generation's interest in spiritual life. If we fail in this mission, our whole efforts of building the mass centres and our constant demand for personal parishes etc in Delhi will be of no use at all.

3. Ecumenical Mission - The word `Ecumenism' is very frequently used in recent times. The Malankara Church by its very nature itself is ecumenical. The Reunion in 1930 was a great event proclaiming both the birth of an individual Church as well as a movement of Church Unity. In India we have started dialogues to cover both intra-Christian relations and inter0religious relations to speed up ecumenical progress. In 1964 Pope Paul VI through the declaration "Nostra Aetate" instituted the secretariate for non-Christians. Later Pope John Paul II called it Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue (PCID). The world council of Churches has its own office for inter-religious relations which has done much work in this direction, The PCID is in close collaboration with this body. The words of Pope John Paul II at a speech in Assissi in 1986 are very relevant: "Either we learn to walk together in peace and harmony, or we drift apart and ruin ourselves and others. We hope that our pilgrimage to Assissi has taught us the common origin and common destiny of humanity. Let us see it and anticipation of what God would like the developing history of humanity to be a fraternal journey to which we accompany one another towards the transcendent goal which he sets for us."
We the Malankara Catholic living in the capital city can play a vital role in making the on-going process of dialogue on ecumenism a success.

4. Socio-cultural Mission - Many of us undermine the importance of the socio-cultural mission of the Church. A close analysis of the developments in the post modern world, would obviously take us to a surprise of modern thinking, and its shift from economics to culture, modes of living, belief, systems, and perceptions. The general crisis of culture leaves in the individuals and society in to alienation, on a feeling of crisis of  meaning of life, ideals, identity etc. Here is the space that Church can step in and do its contribution.
Another concept of "Towards a New Society for Social Justice" is all the more important in the present scenario. The Church neither cannot close the eyes nor shirk its duty towards a society where there are poverty, illiteracy, atrocity etc. Obviously it would be meaningless and counter-productive to preach salvation to an individual whose basic needs of life is deprived of. Sensing this the Church has taken up this challenge and engage in poverty alleviation programs in its possible way. Malankara Catholic Church in Delhi has taken up the mission up of taking care of the poor, the needy, sick and disabled with love and compassion of our Lord. Salvation and service are both the sides of the same coin.

Vision - In terms of thinking of future vision I always cherish a very bright future of the Malankara Catholic Church in Delhi. A sense of deep faith and conviction on our identity, love towards beauty on our liturgy and above all a strong commitment to serve the Church, evinced by our members always make me to think of a better future. I leave no doubts in my mind that sooner or later our demand for personal parishes in Delhi will be granted, thereby a vision of status and autonomy of the individual Churches will become a reality. The days are not far off for us to assemble and worship in a place of our own. The vision of Vatican Council II clearly states the nature of the Universal Church as a communion of local individual Churches recognized by Pope.
Our priests, sisters and laity are totally dedicated and committed to their vocation. I ardently wish that the relevant provisions in the Vatican Council teachings will be implemented with immediate effect with true letter and spirit.

DMCA  AS  ON  TODAY

    It is a human tendency and moreover something natural to ponder of the past, from where and how we started and where we stand today.
When we look back to the history of DMCA (Delhi Malankara Catholic Association), there are much to be proud of, and at the same time we feel that somewhere and somehow some spelling mistakes had happened. If it was not so, there would have been more and more things we could be proud of. An association, started on 19th Nov. 1978 with 6 members, got its proper nutrition and care from 1989-90 onwards under the supervision and special care of our beloved Kochupithavu (Fr. Mammen), and thereafter with the laborious work and pastoral guidance of the Rev. Fathers who served in Delhi, from 6 members we slowly and slowly have grown to be a very big community of almost 7000 members. With these  12 years of hard work, DMCA has become a glowing community.
Where do we stand today?
Answer to this question can be found from the activities of the DMCA. In order to make more effective and convenient we have been divided into 6 zones, and set up zonal committees to look after the spiritual and other essential needs of the faithful. As on today we have 6 zonal committees with a Central Executive Committee, 15 Mass centres, 9 prayer groups, 13 catechism centres, 6 MCYM Units, 8 Baldeep Units, 5 Mathrusangham Units and 3 convents. Apart from the above, we have 3 parsonages of our own, one at Vasant Kunj, one at Dilshad Garden and one under construction at West Delhi. Some of our activities are as follows:

These are in nutshell about some of the activities in Delhi by which the presence of Malankara Catholic Church is exposed among the public and that is the platform where we stand today.

OUR VARIOUS ASSOCIATIONS

1.Mathrusangham
God has created woman, as she is to become the lamp and light of the family; of the society; of the fellowship of Church; with the creation of Eve, the human being become nurtured and complete according to the wishes and divine plan of God. Woman is the lamp of the family. The charm and spirit of a woman is the charm and spirit of a family. The woman, who is filled with discipline, order, neatness, love, patience, sacrifice, compassion etc., is the wealth and attraction of the family. Children hear and learn about godly and worldly affairs from their mother. So far as a Christian woman is concerned, she is supposed to be the dwelling filled with the fruits, graces and blessings of Holy Spirit.
Considering these things in view, an association for women, named "MATHRUSANGHAM" is working well in the Malankara Community in the Delhi Mission. It has five different Units. The 5 major working-units of Mathrusangham in the Mission are at Faridabad, Ghaziabad, West Delhi, Mayur Vihar and Dilshad Garden. They meet generally on the Sundays at the respective places, before or after the Malankara Mass. During the meeting they spend 15 minutes giving priority to: Bible reading, devotional songs and spontaneous prayer in order to develop a prayerful life in the family. The rest of the time they spend for attending classes on different topics viz. Bible, Church, Sacraments, Feasts, Liturgy, Role of woman in the family, Marital relationships, Care for the children, Mother Mary etc.
Religious sisters are leading the classes generally. During the classes group discussions will be held on many such topics. All these classes etc, help the women a lot to attain more knowledge, and to lead a value based family life in the society. Occasionally, they conduct Bible Quiz and other competitions. The members of Mathrusangham visit the houses of sick/departed/other sufferers (irrespective of religion) and make intercessory prayers for them with fasting. The members of this spiritual association also visit the poor and needy living in the nearby areas and supply them foodstuff, clothes, medicines etc. and help them in whatever way possible.
Apart from these, the members of Mathrusangham cooperate and support all the programs of DMCA, MCYM, Baldeep, prayer groups etc. in the Mission area and take active participation in the process of development and growth of the fellowship of our Church and society.

2.MCYM
Young age is the prime period during which one gets fascinated in his/her life-time.  It is the period coupled with energy, enthusiasm and emotions.  The commencement of Youth is the turning point of one’s life when one has to choose the right direction.  Young age is the period one can render better service to the church and society.  It is the time for sharing and caring others.  During Youth Jesus Christ started his public life.  During Youth He taught what is right and what is wrong.  Young Jesus always stood for the truth and justice and voiced against injustice.  During the prime period of youth, Jesus was ready to sacrifice His life for the salvation of the whole world too.  He brought a change and assured a new hope. So no doubt a dedicated and committed group of youth can become the powerful force in any society.   By following the footsteps of Jesus, the present day youth can contribute a lot to the Church and Society.

Among the various Christian youth organizations in India, MCYM (Malankara Catholic Youth Movement) is one of the vibrant groups, established and fostered by Syro Malankara Catholic Church.  Its basic objective is to encourage the youth to strengthen and join-hands with various activities for the development and growth of our Church as well as the society.  Today MCYM is the pride of Malankara Catholic Church.

The Delhi Mission of Malankara Catholic Community has also established various MCYM Units.  There are six dynamic Zonal Units under one Regional Unit of MCYM working in Delhi Mission.  There are one Regional Youth Director and one Regional Youth Animator, under whose dynamic leadership and guidance, the MCYM is marching forward and achieving its goals.  It conducts Prayer Meetings, Study Classes, Seminars, Mass Awareness Programmes, Leadership Camps, Bible Study,  Bible Quiz, Debates, Retreats, Tours, Pilgrimages, various competitions etc. The MCYM in Delhi mission has a special task to bring the children and youth, who are born and brought up in here, to the Malankara bonds and spirits and also to the main stream. For this purpose liturgy has been introduced in Hindi and English. Study classes help them to get sufficient knowledge about Bible, Church and Liturgy.

Members of MCYM take initiative in many charity oriented programmes by visiting the sick, poor, down trodden, orphanages, jails, hospitals etc, and try to help them in the small way possible. Recently it has formed a Career Information Bureau and Marriage Bureau with the focus of helping our youth to find a suitable job and a suitable life partner.

MCYM supports our sister-associations viz Baldeep, Mathrusangham,  MCA etc. in their various programmes. MCYM takes active participation in all the Church activities. Today MCYM, Delhi Mission is popular by holding a strong representation in local, regional and national level programmes.

While we praise and thank our Good Lord who bless us abundantly, we also do express our sincere gratitude to our Priests, Religious Sisters,  Elders and other well wishers who guide, encourage and  support us a lot in all our activities.  The year of 2001, the beginning of a new century and new millennium has given us a new charm as it is organizing the Fifth Malankara Catholic Youth Convention in Delhi.  We hope it would give a new boost to our fellowship and the Malankara Church as a whole.  On this occasion, I would like to call upon the youth to try to be a role model to others – not by our words only, but by our deeds also.  May the Almighty continue to shower His blessings upon us.

5TH MALANKARA CATHOLIC YOUTH CONVENTION (EXTRA TERRITORIAL)

    The fifth National Convention of the Malankara Catholic Youth Movement (MYCM) in the Extra Territorial Regions in India will be held on 13, 14 & 15th November 2001 at Mar Ivanios Nagar (St. Mary's Public School, Neb Sarai, New Delhi. Malankara Catholic Church, Delhi Mission in association with Bahya Kerala MCYM Coordination committee organizes the convention. Presence of our beloved Bishops, fellowship of Malankara youths from all  over India, input sessions by eminent speakers , prayer, solemn liturgical celebrations, panel discussions, group dynamics, cultural evening and public meetings etc.  will be there during the convention.  Various committees formed  to make the event a grand success  are working hard . All  are requested to come, participate and make this event a great success.

MCYM CONVENTION - COMMITTEE MEETING

    A joint meeting of various Committees related to the convention was held on 14th  October at Nirmal Jyothi Convent, Vasant Kunj to discuss about the programme and to present the report of various committees under the chairmanship of Joint Convener Rev. Fr. Cherian Mambrakuzhy. Rev. Fr. John Berchmans OIC was also present for the meeting.

BLESSING OF `MALANKARA JYOTHIS'

    One of the long cherished dreams of having a Mass Centre in Dilshad Garden has been fulfilled. The blessing of `Malankara Jyothis' at F-70, Dilshad Colony will be held on Sunday, 18th November 2001 at 9.00 a.m. H.E. Rt. Rev. Thomas Mar Koorilos (Aux. Bishop of Tiruvalla) has graciously consented to be the main celebrant of the function. Along with the blessing the first Holy Communion of 11 children will also be solemnized on the occasion. Profound thanks to all those who have contributed in a special way with prayers and other support for the accomplishment of the centre.

Faridabad -
    The MCYM Faridabad Unit observed October 7, 2001 as Youth Day. Classes on leadership by Mr. Sunil, fun- filled sports activities and annual general body meeting were arranged  for the Day.     MCYM, Saket Unit was inaugurated on 14th October at Pushpa Vihar church and `Youth day' was celebrated on the same day. Soon after the Qurbono an inaugural meeting was conducted. The meeting started with a prayer song by MCYM members. Fr. Jolly Karimpil inaugurated the meeting. Mr. Shibu, Unit President presided over the meeting. Dr. Tojy Kaleeckal, MCYM Animator, Mr. Jaison John, MCYM President, Mr. T.G. Thomas and Mr. Biju George felicitated on the occasion. Miss Jissa Prasad sang a song during the meeting. Mr. Sebastian, Unit secretary welcomed the gathering and Mr. Prasad, Unit Animator proposed the vote of thanks. Towards the end MCYM anthem was sung.

West Delhi :-
    MCYM, West Delhi Unit celebrated Youth day on 21st October at Punjabi Bagh church soon after the Holy Qurbono in the presence of a good gathering.  Fr. Jolly Karimpil gave the `anugraha prabhashanam'. Mr. Jaison John presided over the meeting. Mr. Roy Thomas, DMCA Zonal Secretary; Mr. T. K. Varghese, Zonal Youth Animator; and Mr. Binu Abraham, Bahya Kerala MCYM Coordination Committee Vice-president felicitated on the occasion. Mr. Shaji John, Unit President welcomed the gathering and Mr. Binoy Abraham  proposed the vote of thanks.  Mr. Biju George was the compere of the programme.

Okhla :-
    MCYM Okhla Unit celebrated October 28th as Youth day as well as Kerala day. In a well attended meeting Secretary Mr. Solomon welcomed the gathering. The meeting started with a prayer song by MCYM members. Rev. Fr. Jolly Karimpil gave the inaugural address. Unit President Mr. Shaji Varghese presided over the meeting. Dr. Tojy Kaleeckal, Mr. Shibu Abraham and Mr. Jaison John felicitated on the occasion. Miss Bincy Babu's song entertained the gathering. Treasurer Mr. Jaison Vettikatt proposed the vote of thanks. The meeting concluded with MCYM anthem.

MAR GREGORIOS MEMORIAL DAY

Vasant Kunj:
    Hundreds of Malankarites gathered at Malankara centre, Vasant Kunj on October 10 to celebrate Mar Gregorios day.  Rev. Fr. Cherian Mambrakuzhy offered the Holy Qurbono and spoke about the relevance of the day.  Reminding the faithful about the life and services of Mar Gregorios,  Fr. Cherian urged all to follow the footsteps of “Valiya Pithavu”.  After the dhoopa-prarthana, paisam was served to all.

West Delhi:
    Mar Gregorios day was celebrated on October 10 at Bethany Convent, Uttam Nagar.  Fr. Jolly Karimpil celebrated the Holy Qurbono and conducted the `dhoopa-prarthana'.  Soon after the service an `anusmarana-yogam' was arranged by the MCYM Unit, West Delhi.  Fr. Jolly gave the anugraha-prabhashanam.  Mr. Roy Thomas (DMCA Zonal Secretary), Mr. Philip Naduviledam (Baldeep Animator), Mr. Biju George (MCYM National Jt. Secretary) spoke on the occasion. Mr. Binoy Abraham (Unit Treasurer) welcomed the gathering and Mr. Jijo Mathew (Unit Secretary) proposed the vote of thanks.  After the yogam, nercha-appam was served to all.

MCYM OKHLA UNIT YEARLY PROGRAMME INAUGURATED

    The yearly programme of MCYM Okhla Unit for year 2001-02 was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Cherian Mambrakuzhy on 23rd September. Fr. Cherian lighted the lamp and handed over the candle to Unit President Mr. Shaji Varghese. Secretary Mr. Solomon Samuel elaborated the programme for the coming year.

OKHLA MCYM UNIT VISITS CHARITY CENTRE

    Under the leadership of MCYM Okhla Unit, several members of Okhla zone visited Mother Theressa's orphanage at Bogel near Ashram on 4th November soon after the Holy Qurbono at Cathedral. Visit to the charity centers is a regular activity undertaken by MCYM in Delhi. During the visit the MCYM members, Baldeep members and parents interacted with the inmates, distributed clothes to them and contributed some money to the institution to show their solidarity with the marginalized people.

ADORATION FOR BALDEEP MEMBERS

Mayur Vihar:
    Baldeep Unit, Mayur Vihar arranged an Adoration for the Baldeep members on 19th October at DM convent, Mayur Vihar from 3.00 - 5.00 p.m.  It was a wonderful experience for the children.  For many of them it was the first Adoration. They participated well by saying prayers, praising and singing devotional hymns. Fr. Jolly Karimpil and Sr. Rose John led the adoration in Hindi, English and Malayalam.

Dilshad Garden:
    An adoration was arranged for the Baldeep Unit, Dilshad garden on 27th October at Malankara Jyothis from 4.00-6.00 p.m. For the children it was a prayerful experience.  Almost every child made a small prayer each, praised the Lord and sang with whole heart. Fr. Jolly Karimpil and Sr. Rose John conducted the adoration and led the children into prayer.
