Without HOLY SPIRIT, God is far away.
Without HOLY SPIRIT Christ stays in the past.
Without HOLY SPIRIT Gospel is a dead letter.
Without HOLY SPIRIT the Church is simply an organization.
Without HOLY SPIRIT Authority is a matter of domination.
Without HOLY SPIRIT Mission is a matter of propaganda.
Without HOLY SPIRIT Liturgy is no more than a recall and
evocation.
Without HOLY SPIRIT Christian Living is a slave morality.
We have just passed an old year an entered into a new one. On the threshold of the new millennium , we trust that the future will outdo the past. Wishing A Happy New Year everyone of us welcomes to a new day, a new millennium and a new order. We must use this opportunity to take a fresh look at life as we leave behind the old order. "While the New Year's wishes of your friends for happiness and prosperity still echo in your ears, roll up your sleeves and start making them come true. " Thus, the turn of the millennium has provided us with an occasion for profound reflection about the type of world we want to live in, and the kind of legacy we want to leave for future generations.
With the dawn of a new year we all have assumed the responsibility
to make the year a wonderful year. How? David William Moor gives the answer:
"A little more happiness spread through the day. A little more cheer to
light up the way; A little more thought for the chap at our side, A little
more credit for others who who've tried. A little more kindness in word
and deed, A little more love for the folks that we know. A little more
love for the folks that we know. A little more effort so friendships may
grow. Just a little of these- as we plod along here- Will make it wonderful,
wonderful year!"
What is a New Year ? It is "A flower unblown; a book unread;
A tree with fruit unharvested; This is the Year that for you waits Beyond
tomorrow's mystic gates"
The dawn of the new year is an opportunity given to look back and go
forward with much optimism. Here what Charles Lamb says is true: "Of all
sounds of all bells, the most solemn and touching is the peal which
rings out the old year. I have never heard it without a gathering up of
my mind to a concentration of all the images of the past twelve months,
all I have done suffered, performed or neglected, in that regretted time.
But on such occasion it is both more noble and more profitable to
take a cheerful and reassuring view of our condition and that humanity
in general, laying aside futile reflections on past imprudence and mismanagement
and resolving for the future to do our utmost in fulfilling
our duty toward God and our fellow men."
What is life?
Life is the blessed gift, share with others; Life is love, enjoy it;
life is mystery, discover it; life is suffering, overcome it; life
is a hymn , sing it; life is life, save it!
Along with it Malcolm Muggeride, a celebrated journalist observes
" I believe with a passionate, unshakable conviction that in all
circuamstances and at all times, life is a blessed gift; that the spirit
that animates it is one of love , not hate or indifference, of light not
darkness, of creativity not destruction, of order not chaos"
Flight of the time and brevity of existence are two factors that strike
us as the twenty-first century dawns. Wise men have said that we
should measure life not by the hopes and enjoyments of this world
, but by the preparation it makes for another. " what we shall be, must
be of greater interest now that we had been in the past"
Life is indeed a precious gift and it is brief. A life
time of four score years passes like a breath. If life is so short
, them we must mend our ways and refrain from wasting it on vanities and
trivialities; in hate , resentments and anger. We will then take time to
sympathise , appreciate, encourage and love our fellow pilgrims in this
journey of life.
Now it is a good time to make a good beginning and to make amends.
Someone puts it this way: " Every day is a new beginnings, new possibilities
, new achievements. The ages have witnessed the stars in their orbits,
but this a new appearance, a new reality . it heralds a new life, a new
order, a new society , a new age; it holds out new hopes new opportunities
to all men. In it you can become a new man , a new woman. For you it can
be a day of regeneration, renewal, rebirth. From the old past with its
mistakes and failures and sorrows, you can rise a new being endued with
power and purpose and radiant with inspiration of a new ideal"
