Find Creative Enlightenment

For the traveler on the road to spiritual progress , the primary focus is to find his/her highest potential, which may also be called creative enlightenment. In Abraham Maslow’s  terminology , enlightened people are referred to as ‘meta-normal’ beings, those who embody concept of wholeness, truth, simplicity, effortless energy and transcendence. According to him, living at this higher level meant greater biological efficiency, less disease, better sleep and increased emotional intelligence. Physical problems also tend to disappear since they often the outcome of creative frustration. Not that meta- normal people are immune to fears, tensions and anxiety. These arise form genuine problems , not neurotic imagination.

Deepak Chopra in his book ‘The Seven Spiritual Laws  of Success’ says most people spend 99% of their time defending their points of view, wasting energy and nurturing resentment and hurtfulness. He says that if we give up this habit , refusing  to get into arguments , fights and resistance, then we gain access to enormous amounts of energy- creative  energy that can be gainfully used, instead of being wasted.
We make our own roads , each one of us and whether we travel freely and joyously or miserable and burdened  by ills and sorrow , is up to us . In the Buddhist spiritual teachings it is emphasized that before embarking on any spiritual quest we should apply the six great perfections:- compassion, generosity, morality, awareness, wisdom and consistency. All these are tested every day in our lives as we interact with families , strangers and friends. Each one increases personal growth and improves interpersonal relationships. Each one transcends opposing forces, dissension and dichotomies , each one helps us on the upward path.

LENT: TIME SET APART TO PONDER

As a church we are entering the season of " Valia Nompu" ( Great Fast)  on Feb 25,2001. The time of Nombu is the time set apart by the church for the faithful to strengthen in spiritual energy. How we can do this? It is through fasting, prayer, love towards fellowmen and works of charity. A well disciplined way of life is essential towards success land likewise observance of Nombu in a disciplined and stipulated way helps us to imitate Christ and also enrich spiritual energy. According to the tradition  and custom of Malankara church, everybody is to devote and set aside special item for reading Holy Bible and spiritual books everyday.
Fasting is one way to discipline ourselves in the spiritual energy. Fast is abstinance from food, or certain kinds of foods for a period of time. The origin of fasting is unknown. But the custom of fasting has played a part in the practices of every major religious groups. There are many purpose for  fasting. It has often been a way in which people sought pardon for their misdeeds. In some religion people fast during the time of mourning . In other, people believe that fasting will take their minds from physical things, and produce a state of spiritual joy and happiness. We Christians fast during Lent in the way Jesus Christ spent fasting  for 40 days in the wilderness.
If we look back we could see how far parents and grand parents observed this (abstinance) to enrich themselves in spiritual energy. In this present context of life, fasting has become a fashion and we began to loose the real sense and meaning behind this great custom. Even the church began to interpret the meaning of the word fasting or abstinance , and become so linient as per the convenience of the laity and we have been told to abstain atleast from meat and meat products on all days till Easter Sunday. Abstain form fish on all Fridays of the Nombu. Fast atleast form breakfast on the first day of the Nombu and on all Fridays during lent. Those who have the tendency to smoke try to control and try to overcome it. those who consume alchoholic  drinks try to overcome it. in this context I remember the words of Mahatama Gandhi- " A smoke can only destroy the bdy byt the curse of drink corrupt the soul within." How meaningful are these words? We have to ponder on it during this Lenten season.
Fasting and sharing are the two virtues of one coin. Love towards fellowmen and the virute of shairng that emits form this real love is the real weapon that help us ot be with Jesus Christ especially during this Lenten time. Form fasting whatever we could save , should be shared with the needy brotheren. There millions of people who are unlucky to have atleast one time meal. God has blessed us with everything. During this Lenten season let us take the pledge to help our poor and needy friends. Let us share what we are and what we have.
Prayer is another way we could enrich ourselves in spiritual energy. Recite the special prayer of Nombu atleast morning and evening asone family. God dwells far from us, but prayer brings Him down to our earth. In the morning, prayer is the key that opens to us the treasure  of God's mercies and blessings; in the evening it is the key that shuts us up under his protection and safegurard. Here I quote, " He who runs form god in the morning will scarcely find him the rest of the day" - says Bunyan. Our prayer and God's mercy are like two buckets in a well, while there one ascends, the other descends. Our Lord and God is watching us. We cannot escape or hide anything from his sight. Let us love each other, share each other, help each othere, prya toegether, and there by observe the Nombu in its real spirit and true sense. " Practice in life whatever you pray for, and God will give it to you more abundantly" says Pusey

ST.MARY'S SCHOOL  OBSERVED CHARITY DAY

Just after the Republic Day celebrations, which started with Flag hoisting done by Fr. Varughese Madathikunnath, several bundles of clothes collected by staff and students   were distributed to the poor people living in the nearby villages of the school.  At the end there was a real sharing with the poor people with  food packets brought by each and everyone of the school. Definitely,  the means implemented  for inculcating the value of sharing  with one another, especially with the poor is highly commendable. LENTEN SEASON

The Season of Lent starts from February 25th ( Sunday), 2001. Yes, it is an occasion given by God to examine oneself and mend the ways by which we may have gone far from God. Let us make use this opportunity to repent and believe the Gospel. Don’t forget that Our Ever-loving Father is still waiting for our return at the door post. Intense  prayer, fasting with devotion and sharing with love etc., are, definitely,  the means that make us purified from our sinfulness and accepted before God. Let prepare ourselves to enter the Lenten Season.

SHUBUKKONO

'Subukhono' is, as we know, the  first day of the "Valia Nompu. According to our Malankara tradition there is a special liturgy on the day. The meaning of the liturgy being conducted on the day is that we get into the Valia Nompu by asking pardon to everyone whom we have offended or ill-treated through our words and  deeds during our life. Please note that there will be the liturgy of 'Subkhono' at 7.30p.m.at Mayur Vihar and Uttam Nagar  Malankara Mass Centers on February 26, 2001( Monday).
