WOLVERINE
"The self sufficient can opener"

Can we say "button pusher"? Geez, every time I see someone choose him, it makes me want to cheat! But that's just a temper problem for me. Since there is a big percentage who know and love good old Logan "aka Wolverine", Capcom made sure that he was a complete cheese package. He's not really a cheese, he's just made for everyone to be able to play with him without a lick of skill in their underwear. Now, he has been exposed for the combos he possesses and they can hurt due to the speed and the number of hits. He has good range with his claws and an awkward angle of jumping like Chun Li, but don't be intimidated. If you are facing someone who has dedicated his or her life to the claws then most likely they'll play just like the role...hot headed and all offense. You'll have to have patience for this one. I play him rarely and I can tell you that it doesn't take long for you to come up with nasty combos for him. Let's venture first into you playing with this character.

-------Weasel Family Do's and Don'ts-------
Let's get some of the "no no's" out of the way. First, when you play with him, always cover your feet. Wolverine is almost helpless when launched and most likely he'll get launched cuz of a low short kick or punch. Second don't use Crouching Roundhouse. This usually would be a sweep for anyone else but Wolvie leaps horizontally with this attack and it's usually predictable. Most likely you'll be launched or thrown. Actually, this is a very useful move for Wolverine! Why? Cause it'll set up his Fatal Claw and Tornado Claw perfectly! Also, if you're in a corner, you can even make a Weapon X connect! Use the offensive crouching fierce instead by crouching and pressing forward on the joystick. He does his baseball claw slide. It's effective for setting up a super and its animation frames easily conceal where he's going so it kinda throws them off guard when they see it coming. Oh yeah, it has great recovery speed and pushes you apart a little when it's blocked. Third is don't use the fierce button for berserker barrage unless you are a good distance or you know you have him. Takes too long to recover and you can easily miss them and become exposed if they jump over it. If you are using it in a ground combo, use jab to open them up and keep them close to you. If it's blocked then you'll still be able to keep them in check. If you have to cover distance or just chip at their energy, use medium punch for the barrage.
Ok, now for the things you should do. Do use standing fierce to keep you opponent in check. Even the slightest jiggle from you enemy should be a reason. It has great range and if timed correctly, it can even stop fireballs and shields. It will definitely push you back out of harms way if blocked (though I can't really see why you'd want to block blades that could cut through an alloy door.). Do use jab and strong just as much if not more. Set them up with either one and you've got a claw party waiting to happen. Don't forget that his medium punch and kick button hits for two if you press twice and it won't push them away if the first one connects. Do use jumping fierce when counter attacking someone who is trying to launch you while you're in the air. Now I used to thing that this was a cheesy move but it's innovative and makes you think to be more patient. So if you're trying to leap onto someone and they try to launch you, block then use fierce in the air. They won't recover as fast as you can. Do use air roundhouse when you see your opponent jumping after you. I have no idea what kind of jump kick this is and it looks like he's have a fit, but it has three hitting points that cover his body fairly well. So even if the person is above you, you have a good chance of hitting him with this one. However, if you're on the offense, go with the jab punch to size them up. Do use weapon X when you see someone thowing a fire ball. He passes right on through it but it won't work for Captain America!

------Combo Mombo-------
Most of the combos I know are already on this site. But there are some nasty ones that are not on here but can only be done by people who are used to Wolverine's speed and timing. Try this one. Use that nifty crouching medium punch that sucks them in and then do a standing roundhouse to launch them. Once launched, follow them and use the universal four hit combo: little punch, medium punch, medium kick and them roundhouse (don't use fierce or you'll jam them into the ground too quickly). Now, do it again except take out the roundhouse and replace it with drill claw going diagonally upward. This will hit him and send you down half a second faster than them. Now as they come down, time your attack and use medium punch twice to do a double slice, then press fierce. Man is that a combo from hell. Just watching this one makes you give up. If you are a season vetran of x-man vs street fighter of marvel superheroes, then add this combo to the two standing medium punches: after pressing the standing medium punch twice, go immediately to offensive crouching fierce then immediately roll into your Super Barrage! This slide will hit them before they get to the ground and count as a trip so when you roll into the Super Barrage, it will be a bloody funeral for their character. The first time I saw it I wanted to cry. It takes timing for this one so be sure you have it and a handful of quarters. As far as the 33 hit combo that pushes you up in the darkeness of the left or right upper corner, If there is a request for I, I'll get cracking on the order of buttons. But personally anytime you take advantage of the programming glitch in the game just to show how well you can save 50 cents by abusing the fastest character on the game is not really a street fighter but more of a lack of imagination and integrity. But that's my opinion. Oh, and just to let you know, the 33 hit combo only takes an extra 20% more damage off. So don't worry about it destroying you. You're better off doing your super if you want damage and don't this that no one can stop you. I use Dan and Shadow to put that 33 hit combo in the trash.

------His Hyper Speed is Baaaaaaaaaaack------
Just when you thought it was gone for good, they had to bring it back. Yup, Logan has injected hiimself with 2 cans of Surge and Liter of Jolt cola to give you.....Berserker Hyper Speed! Now if you think that the previous combo I just mentioned is impressive, try this when you have hyper speed: crouch med. Punch, standin roundhouse to launch them then do this jab punch, small kick, med. Punch, med. Kick, then back to med. Punch then med. Kick then drill claw then complete the ground combo but since you're fast enough, just do the 2 med. Punches then do the tonado claw all the way up with the fierce button and keep pressin! It works but it takes oodles of practice and timing because Wolverine will jiggle, squirm and shake because he's difficult to control in this hyper mode. And you though Beavis was bad when he ate candy.

------Fatal Claw Link Up-------
I thought the fatal claw was useless because of the angle you have to be at. But in actuality, it has a good use in an easy set up combo. The combo is too easy to do for so much damage in my opinion! Just run at them and do crouching jab punch, then crouching medium to suck them in. Launch them as usual with the standing roundhouse and then immediately go for fatal claw, Does serious damage and intimidates even the most hard edged opponents.

Ok ok enough of the praising of Wolverine. Let's do what I like doin... givin him a can of Whoop ass! Yeah! I'll help!

------Keep on Duckin!-----
When Wolverine runs, better duck cuz it's your feet he's after. If the first part of this article didn't get in your head that he wants to launch you, then you shouldn't be playin this game. Now there are some who prefer to stay on the ground but it's not good enough when it comes to the anti wolverines in the world. So wait and crouch in defense so you can take advantage of a throw or launching him.

------Under the Bridge------
Wolverine has an awkward angle of jumping. Those who don't brave the fear will get their ass kicked. Those who challenge his jumps will try to launch him. Those who like a little of both do what I occasionally do...walk under him and throw. Don't even mess around with launching him when you get under. To an experienced player who's fighting you, that just means he's closer to getting you first. Walk under him and throw him like Tuesday's trash on the curb. For the big guys (Omega, Zan, Blackie, and Hulk), stand your ground and use your best counter. Omega would be crouching med. Punch or the med. Kick. Zangief, jump straight up and spin lariat; or if you're brave enough, just crouch med. Punch to launch them. Hulk...use jab or hurl ground at him. Black heart, use your crouching med. Kick or standin med. punch.

--------The Anti Wolverine Solution--------
Noooo, It's not Omega, It's not Chun Li, and It's not Spiderman.
It's the Kojack of the game...Dan!
Dan in the hands of a good player can and will stop wolverine. Dan has no reason to chase Weapon X and Dan's medium kick will stop Wolvie in his tracks if he tries to run at you or drill claw, or after he does berserker barrage. Dan's air throw superiority keeps Wolverine on the ground and if you use the medium kick for the gale kick, you keep Wolverine in check. I know cuz I kill with Dan. We'll talk about Dan Later on. But for you Dan players, use that middle kick like there's no tomorrow. This is so true! Wolverine player look at Dan and they just see red! They will constantly come at you! If they jump, launch em and air throw. If they corner you, throw them with the kicks, jump up and air throw and then pull off a Hisshou Burai Ken! Ouch!

However, I've also found Chun Li and Blackheart to be very good characters to use against Wolverine! For Chun-Li, stay on the ground and make him jump at you. Launch him with your impenetrable air defense and air combo! They will never learn to not jump! Blackheart's J.Forward will always outprioritiza anything that Wolverine has! Just keep jumping at him with it and combo as soon as one hits! Watch out for the Fatal Claw though!

------Characters Against Wolverine------
THE SHOKOTAN FAMILY- Use projectiles when Wolverine has no super or at medium range. If you shot a fireball from long range...you'll be getting the Weapon X in your eye. Air Fireballs are good.
ZANGIEF- Keep your attacks short and quick jabs and mediums. Fierce only when you know you got it. Counter Wolverines jumps with the Lariat or a jumping roundhouse to keep him away from combos
BISON- Be sneaky by using short attacks and special moves. DON'T SLIDE SWEEP!!!!!! Don't bother too much in disappearing, Wolverine will catch up to you unless you disappear in the air.
DHALSIM- Play keep away and throw when opportunity knocks. Use Yoga Strike to teach Logan a lesson about jumpin into things.
SAKURA- You can fight head on with Wolverine but time your attacks. You're better off being calm than rushing in. Don't get struck by Weapon X or Fatal Claw. Your dainty body can't take it.
CHUN LI- Keep low and don't get into jumping games. Wolverine is stronger than you. Lightning Kicks do hurt him. Play smart and get your team character involved often. As I said before, if he jumps, use your S.Roundhouse! He'll never hit you!
DAN- Read above and Use your flying foot barrage when Wolvering screws up. If you get that foot in, follow up immediately with your super fireball (or should I say fire droplet)
CYCLOPS- You've always been able to handle Logan. Optic Blast low to lock him to the ground. Use middle optic blast when he jumps at you. Don't use fierce optic blast.
SPIDERMAN- Face him down with your own combos and don't use web swinging unless he's open. Use standing roundhouse to cover your ass if he jumps at you at a weird angle.
CAPTAIN AMERICA- Stay cool and use that jumping fierce. If wolverine jumps at you while you're grounded, use standing medium punch to launch him or use your somersault evasion to get out the tight spots. Use standing medium kick to attack when he messes up or you block a barrage. Only use standing fierce when you know he's open.
S. GORATH- Use that standing roundhouse to test his patience, then go in with jab mystic smash. Throw with the kick buttons as often as you can. Mystic stare only when you shrug Wolvie of.
HULK- Be patient and use short attacks. If Wolvie jumps in on you, either crouch fierce to launch or time it, wait till he's close enough and take his hit by doing you super Gamma Wave ground upheaval. I'd rather take the hit. Once the first piece of Astroturf hits him, he'll be surfing the rest of them. Avoid Gamma Crush. If it's blocked you're going to have a bad day.
BLACK HEART- Use jab and middle buttons to keep Logan away. Sick the little critters on the ground to get him to jump and then use Armageddon, black lightning, or just standing medium kick or punch. Don't throw an Armageddon if you think he has a chance of blocking, cause a smart Wolverine player will do a Weapon X and plow through it! However, there aren't very many smart Wolverine players...hehehehe
OMEGA RED- Use your feet at close range and use standing fierce at long range. Omega Strike often and only use tentacles when you know you've got him open. Ducking medium punch works well against jumps but it won't launch.
